Silly Libs.

Look it's one thing to use race to get a guy the job, it takes it to another level when you use race to cover for his piss poor performance.

I don't know. How prevalent was the lynching of white boys in this country?

Have you been operating under the assumption there were not a butt-load of white people lynched?

Yeah, I guess it sounds more horrible if one one race gets lynched...but the facts are a bit different.

I don't think anyone would deny lynching is horrible.

Your question though, as it applied to the effigies of George Bush, was "is it's racism?". You can't answer that by asking how many white people were lynched, rather you would have to ask how many white people were lynched for racist reasons?

For an absolute answer, you would have to go case by case. The US has kept fairly accurate records of lynchings. Going by the records kept for the most prominent periods, more than 95% of lynch mobs were white. Almost 80% of lynch mob victims were black. As I said, I can't give you an absolute answer, but that was your relative answer. You don't have to go that far into the records to discern a pattern, but I'll leave that to you.

Don't jump to conclusions, lynchings aren't always horrible, if you got the right guy and he deserves to have a neck-stretch.... thats not what I would call "horrible"

What can go horribly wrong is you lynch the wrong guy.... which is why it is a bad idea.

- You threw out numbers but never shared where they came from, forgive me if I call B.S. on them.

If I recall correct about 1/3 of lynched persons were white, which if you compared that to todays rates of crime/race... might not be so far off the mark.

What I reject is the notion that all people who were lynched (white or black) were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Are we to believe people back then did not commit the same inhumane acts of depravity we see in the news daily today?

Are we really to believe people had no interests in hanging the right person ..... the one who actually killed their wife or raped their child?

Again, the idea that lynching is some unique act specially related to Blacks is silly and born of ignorance of history.

When and where?

I am always there for you Dude.

Not all lynchings in the United States were targeted against African Americans. Between 1882 and 1968, the Tuskegee Institute recorded 1,297 lynchings of whites as well as the 3,446 lynchings of African Americans during that period.[1][13] By the 1890s and after the turn of the century, the vast majority of those lynched were Black people,[14] including at least 159 women.[15] Lynchings of other minority members, such as Mexicans and Chinese, have been shown to have been undercounted in the Tuskegee Institute's records.[16]

Say, how many of these white lynchings were racially motivated?

NOw that I made my case you want to move on to another angle?

People were lynched for several reasons, outrage of a crime being one. Racism would add to the outrage of a given crime... no doubt about that.

I make no attempt to justify or minimize the crime of lynching, my effort is simply to add proportion to the practice and dispel the myth that lynching was a "black thing", it wasn't. Naturally due to the nature of lynching, blacks would be effected more so than whites but too many people are under the assumption that lynching was not a common remedy used against anyone.

And what is lynching after all? The lack of due process right? At this very time in history, how many Africans received "due process" in africa? ZERO, yet we hold "White society" to a higher standard, why is that?

In addition to the local ministers highlighted above, there were also local head-judges or Cadi

(Qadi). The justice system was twofold: that of the king and that of the Cadi. The Cadi was

appointed by the king and dealt with common-law misdemeanors or disputes either between

citizens and foreigners or amongst citizens themselves. The disputes were settled in the form of a

tribunal, administered by the Cadi. The Cadi also had the power to grant a pardon or to offer

refuge. Given that the Cadi was a Muslim head-judge, the common-law in this context would

appear to be that of Qu’ran, that is, Sharia Law. Diop also states that due to large-scale

commercial immigration another judge besides the Cadi was appointed. This judge was able to

settle disputes between the immigrant merchants. (Diop, 1987:124). Evidence of these Cadi’s,

judges and their functions is provided by two writers of that time Kati and Sadi, these authors

and their work are explored in more detail later in this passage (see Kati, 1913; Diop, 1987,

Hunwick, 1999).
