Horror for man whose video was plastered across websites in online dating scam

WHAT started out as a way to meet new people online turned to horror for one man who was the victim of a cyberscam where an intimate video of himself was plastered across dozens of porn sites, along with his real name and contact details after he stopped paying money to women whom he believed he was having a relationship with. And Brisbane Police say the scam is not uncommon.

John is 38, and readily admits he has a mental health issue that makes the “live” dating scene difficult for him, so he thought he'd turn to the internet for some social interaction.

But what started out as a way to engage in online chat and relationships soon turned into an ugly nightmare after John had his trust betrayed by a woman he befriended.

His private webcam video was plastered across porn sites with his real name and address attached.

On top of that, in a second scam he was also defrauded of cash and credit card details.

Poor guy. Stories like that are what make people so nervous about the internet. Granted he did send explicit media to a stranger.

 What could go wrong?

FWIW I am not the least bit nervous about the internet.
