The DS-156K form asks for specific documents to be attached to the application, such as a birth certificate, police certificate, evidence of engagement to your fiancé, and evidence of financial support. Do I need to make copies of those documents and attach them separately to this form or do they just need a copy of those documents in the whole packet? Would evidence of financial support be the I-134 form? What do they need for evidence of engagement? The intent to marry letter? They ask for so many duplicate documents. I’m confused if they need a separate document for each form that requires it or we just need to supply it with the whole application itself.

i think your a little confused. nothing should be attached to any of ds forms. you just fill them and take them with you to the interview. he needs to bring the documents as requested in the interview letter differently. you can read the guide on VJ to get a basic idea of what everything is all about. check out this link and go down to the bottom of the page and you will find out what exactly you need to send to him

They need the original documents of everything. That is his birth certificate, police certificate, certificate of non-impediment, your original I-134 with supporting documentation (2011 tax return or tax transcript, payroll stubs, w-2, letter from employer), then your letters of intent to marry. It goes in the entire package. I just made a cover letter just like with my I-129f that lists everything that I included in the packet of information.

we didn't get an interview letter that details documents to bring. Also the k-1 guide does not tell you the specific forms to take to the consulate.

You can always email the embassy and ask them for the check list. At least that is what I did :)
