Long time lurker, first time poster. This is a fantastic community with a ton of useful information

I'll be brief: Has anyone here waited more than one month for the first cheque to be cashed for their K1 application?

The application package was received on the 16th of July, but no funds have been drawn from the payee account. :help:

I understand the service centres may be under some strain with the recent refugee visa processing, but I'm starting to feel a little uneasy.

Our wedding date is set for 31 May 2013, which is apparently 'enough' time, but I'm not so sure.

Thanks in advance for your responses,

daklaf.

Welcome to the forum.

WOW!!! That does sound inordinately long and not hear or receive anything.... You have positive delivery confirmation to the Dallas TX lockbox location? Since the government loves money, I am a bit surprised that the check has not been processed. You could attempt contacting USCIS customer service, but without a reference number or something of that nature, it may akin to "looking for a needle in a haystack." I suspect that there have been similar occurrences as yours, use the forum Google search function to access.

BTW, since you have been a long-time lurker..... The general forum recommendation about weddings is to not place any deposits, make any specific plans/reservations/contracts until the visa is in your passport, which is in your hand. There are far too many variables that can (and do) occur that will delay your visa process. There is little sense in adding more self-inflicted stress into your lives.

Good luck on your visa journey.

It is normal. Mine was the same. Fiance called them and they said there is a month delay. I had to get her to call them, so was in the same position like you, worried! No need.

I had the same issue and it turns out they returned the packet to me because I made an error in writing out the check. Give them a call, they'll be able to find your information with your names and tell you what's going on.

Hi A & B,

Thanks for your feedback, I've responded below:

You have positive delivery confirmation to the Dallas TX lockbox location?

Yes "Delivered

July 16, 2012

LEWISVILLE, TX 75067

Certified Mail™"

You could attempt contacting USCIS customer service, but without a reference number or something of that nature, it may akin to "looking for a needle in a haystack."

Do you know if the parcel tracking number can be used to locate the package?

I suspect that there have been similar occurrences as yours, use the forum Google search function to access.

I had a look at the July and August filers boards and as far as I could see, our case is an isolated one. We triple checked the package and also had our attorney review it, so I'm 99% confident that we've included everything required.

two possibilities

1. You sent it to the worng address and it is floating around looking for the proper home

2. Your forgot some very fundamental thing, such as signing the form and the petition will be rejected, sent back, and you will have to resend it. THAT can take more than a month.

No matter the number of applications they are quick about taking money. They do not cash checks if there is some fundamental problem, they send the whole package back with the check and you correct the problem and resend it.

:bonk:

I'm going to review our scanned copy of the pack this evening, just to make sure we haven't missed anything fundamental.

EPIC FAIL :crying:

After a closer look, the cheque was made out for the amount of $325.00 rather than $340.00. I have no idea why we didn't check this amount.

How long does it typically take for the USCIS to reject and send the parcel back? I'm assuming that they won't allow a supplementary payment of $15.00...

TA-DA! Well at least you know what the problem is now. I have heard them sending it back shortly after rejection. Meaning, you have gone a month now with no responses. It is more than likely on its way back to you and will probably be received any day now. At least you can apply the quick fix, reorganize, and send it off again. You assume correctly. They wouldn't even accept it if it was over the amount. No worries. Just a slight delay. Good luck! :goofy:

Well, at least you now know the likely reason for the delay. As ToddnJessa mentioned, the petition is likely being sent back to you right now for resubmission with the correct visa petition fee. It may be wise to take this opportunity to review the entire petition to check for any other errors that your attorney missed. Hopefully, you can quickly re-submit and not result in too much of a delay in your visa journey.

BTW, it is just these kinds of delays that can play havoc on pre-set wedding plans. The Lord knows that here is enough stress associated with going through the visa process.

Good luck on your visa journey.
