A lot of people are missing the point. Unemployment is still near record highs and a LOT of citizens cannot find work. This is a slap in the faces of millions of un-and-under employed Americans. It's just too bad that as a nation, we're lazy and won't take that to the polls.

I live in South Florida. We have a large population of young people who fall within this category. All the interviews I have heard and read about this point to a very low number of people applying initially. Most have expressed concern that filing will expose them to the government with unknown consequences after the election.

Humm, could be, they should wait till after election to file, this could lead authorities to other non eligible illegals! Maybe Obama is more clever than we think!

What guarantee do they have that the next administration (now or in the next 4 years) won't yank this away? Obama won't be there forever. Where will it leave them then? Obtaining only a 2 year deferred status with no guarantee they can remain in the country would have me very concerned. I can say I can see why they aren't running to obtain the benefit.

I guess I am lucky I got through the AOS process; I have copied in part a local news paper article. I have no idea how this may affect the visa process such as a K1, but without additional staffing it would have to slow USCIS down

Si, man. As someone observed to me, simple math is enough to convince any rational person that a flood of nearly 2 million new applications is going to have an effect on the service centers. They aren't hiring any new personnel to handle them. Add to this any political priority, and the impact becomes clearer.

I remember when I filed my I-129f. Then the earthquake in Haiti happened and hundreds of thousands of Haitians became eligible for TPS. Everyone thought our petitions would grind to a halt. Didn't happen. Everything moved along just fine. I suspect the same will happen now.

There is no indication that it will be any different. The applications should be processed and handled as they normally are.

However, there will be those who prefer to agonize over speculation, always!

No indication that there is a flood of applications coming anytime soon. But it's great talking points for politicians who want to stir up hatred and blame our economic problems on people who came here for the most part as infants, babies and small children and know only this country as home. This is a good thought -- thanks. In this instance, it's probably not feasible. However, great minds work alike -- I'd already planned to tell him that hundreds (zillions?) of family-based petitioners will appreciate answers. Definitely stay tuned here.
