Hi All,

We have a big question regarding visa interview country. My fieancee and I have decided to apply the K 1 visa. I'm US citizen and she is from Myanmar who currently lives and works in SG with PR status. Here are our questions.

1. Can she setups her interview in SG through US Embassy or she's to go back to Myanmar and setups the interview there?

Here are other questions in condition that if she's got approval K 1 visa through US Embassy in SG:

1. Does she has to come straight from SG?

2. Can she go back to Myanmar(to unload her unnecessary things) and come to US from Myanmar?

Can someone share some knowledge/experience in our dilemmas? She would like to go back to Myanmar and come from there, but we worried about the US Immigration might raise "red flag" on this action.

All answers/thoughts would be really appreciate!!!!!

Best Regards,

Simon

She can arrange to interview wherever she has legal status. Since she has PR status in SG she should be able to contact the US embassy/consulate in Myanmar and get her case transferred to SG, assuming the SG consulate/embassy has an appropriate visa section.

Once she gets approval, she can arrive in the US from anywhere in the world, as long as she hits a US Point of Entry before the expiry date on her visa. Nobody in the US will care.

DON'T PANIC

When you fill out the paperwork for the K-1 you will put her address and legal residence as Singapore and that is where they will send her case for the interview. Include a copy of residence permit/residence visa or whatever is giving her legal status in Singapore in your packet. You can also add in your cover letter (if you do one) that the beneficiary is living in Singapore and would like to have the interview there but most likely that is not necessary.

After she has her visa she has typically 6 months to use it. Prior to that she can go wherever she wants, no one will be keeping tabs on her.

Good luck.

Thanks HeatDeath and beejay for all answers. That really helped with our questions. We have other questions.

We have been planning our wedding a while ago and I really want my girl to enjoy the ceremony. So, If we do ceremony (without signing any marriage agreement) do you guys think it could effect the K1 approval?

Thanks for all helping!!!

Welcome to the forum.

:time: Your profile states AOS status and Nebraska Service Center, yet you say that you will be doing a K-1 Fiancee visa. Please update.

BTW, the K-1 fiancee visa is for unmarried couples. If you go through a marriage ceremony and not sign the papers, will you be married or not???? The general recommendation is to NOT make any marriage plans or arrangements until you have the visa in your hand. This is because there are so many factors that may affect your visa petition and application.

Good luck on your visa journey.

If anybody in the US government, at any point in the process, has any reason to even suspect that you might actually be married, your K-1 visa process will be canceled, the visa, if it has already been issued, will be voided, and you will have to start over with a CR-1 visa, adding months and months and hundreds and hundreds of dollars to your process.

You are advised, in the strongest POSSIBLE terms, to avoid doing ANYTHING that might give even the SLIGHTEST appearance of actually being married before you are both through Customs and Immigration and on US soil!
