Thank you guys, I understand that more.

Today, I went to see my GP.

The GP told me it's unnecessary to have an immunity check?

Because I had a blood test for Varicella before.

Then he gave me two shots-flu and Tdap for Whooping cough, they're free.

Finally, I just had a free blood test for Measles and Rubella.

Now, waiting for the blood result to see what I need to have next.

He also said that he would write a letter of updated vaccination record to me.

Ok, if you have already had a blood test checking for Varicella before, that's why he told you it's not necessary - but you will need a copy of the results of that test to take with you to interview to prove immunity.

I hope that they are also checking for Mumps, because you will need proof of immunity to that too. I had all the MMR shots done in childhood/as a teenager, yet my results came back to say that I was immune to Rubella, but not Measles or Mumps. If your results come back to say your not immune to either the measles or rubella, you will have to have the MMR shot again anyway, and that will cover you for the mumps then too.

Make sure you get copies of EVERYTHING - immunity results, what vaccinations he did, etc.

Yes, I will make sure my GP gives me everything to prove my immunity.

Actually, I am worried about the test for Varicella,is done in 2010.

If I have both Measles and Rubella immunity, I don't need the shot?

I believe varicella immunity is life-long, so I think your 2010 titre would still be valid. After all, they also accept documented history of chicken pox as proof, so I think you should be ok there.

My concern would be whether they are checking you now for mumps. If they aren't, you won't have any vaccination record or proof of immunity to this, in which case you will either have to get another titre to check for it, or get another MMR shot done.

I would call the doctor and make sure they are also doing the titre for mumps, and if they aren't, see if its too late for them to request it (I imagine it is, but its worth a try).

Actually,I couldn't remember I have it or not. I knew my two sisters had, when we were young and lived in the same room. And my Mom has too many kids couldn't remember whether I have a chicken pox or not. :bonk: I just remembered I had a high temperature no spot. That's 25 years ago story. Wow....I am old, sorry :ot:

Since yesterday,I have been thinking of I might have another titre for the whole MMR.

Well, I don't mind that just give them more my blood. :innocent:

Yes, you are right. It's late to request it. No worries, we will see what happen next Tue.

This time, I will prepare all medical terms list to show the GP because my English is not very good. Some terms I can't say it. :crying:

Your welcome.

Just to make things clear..... you need to have either proof of immunity to or vaccination records for :

  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella (chicken pox)
  • Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Acellular Pertussis)
  • Flu shot (since it is flu season)

You said you just got the Tdap (Boostrix) and the flu shot, so you are good on both of those once the doctor gives you the copy of having done these.

All this time, I have been giving advice based on the most common vaccinations for most adults - I have been assuming you are between 18 and 65. If not, your requirements will be a little different.

I'm putting a link HERE to show you the vaccination requirements. At the bottom of the page there is a table that shows what vaccinations are required by which age groups. If it helps you to explain things a little better to your doctor, maybe print off that table and show it to him so he can see what the requirements are.

Good luck :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Thank you, that's really helpful. (L) (L) (L)

A little update.

Yesterday, 13/7/12 I did my medical exam.

Total was $346.5 (chest X-ray+blood test).

Postal fee was $7

No urine test! Why?

And I gave the Dr. my updated immunization record.

I also have done all necessary vaccines with my GP.

MMR.

TdaP.

Flu.

Varicella (chicken pox)- having immunity

Now, Dr Charles Okraglik(Victoria) asked me to see him again......I need to pay a shot.

It will cost me extra $55.

I don't understand why I was required to have another shot which I already did with my GP.

I saw doctor Charles too and I didn't have to do the urine test either, lol.

The only reason I could think that he would make you have a shot you've already had is if you didn't have the acceptable proof that you had already had the shot or are immune. Maybe your doctor didn't give you all the papers you needed to prove you've had them??

Yes, I just asked someone who did the medical exam in June, no urine test.

My GP gave me all blood tests to prove my current immunity and all shots record I already had as well.

If Dr.Charles thought the record which I gave him was not acceptable, he would require me to have the shot right away.

Why I will receive the shot after I receive my medical result? I totally lost.

Or I wouldn't receive my medical result until I had the shot he required?

People who posted their medical exam experience here, they had necessary shots at their medical exam day. :bonk: no one is the same as me would get a shot at another day.

You should all check on the MMR. When I had mine (after the titre testing), my GP told me that the boosters were free for anyone born before 1986 because apparently the vaccine has a lifespan of 20 years which is something they did not know back then. So, I didn't pay for that shot and I only ended up paying $40 I think for the Tdap.

Medicare didn't cover the titre, it was $158 but the panel physician's assistant (in Qld) advised me to have all this done beforehand if I could.I should also add, if you don't already have one, have them complete the yellow vaccination booklet. It's issued by the WHO and it's accepted in worldwide. It's easy and compact.

You could also just say that you morally object to vaccinations ;) We have done this for our boys, and I decided to say the same for myself (was only required to have flu vax and tetanus boosters anyway). You'd be within your rights.
