Hello! I registered to VJ because I've read a lot of useful topics and responses.

I am from the Philippines and my boyfriend is an American guy living in the US. He is flying here in 2 months. We previously planned on processing a Fiance Visa. He is currently receiving Disability benefits because of an accident years back. He is only 38 and I'm 28. He very much wants to work again but prefers to fly here and marry me first and then we can start planning our life together when we have the Spousal Visa instead. Unfortunately, he doesn't get much benefits.

He is now staying with my aunt in IL. I feel like it is an advantage that he knows and lives with a relative of mine. She is very willing to be a co-sponsor. We still need to follow-up on her citizenship. If she is only a green card holder then we have her husband to co-sponsor. Can I have a relative of mine co-sponsor with him?

I just need help with getting things ready like documents to get or any other steps to do. What are our chances with a situation like this.

I would really appreciate any response. Thank you

*Disclaimer: I'm not 100% sure about this so don't panic yet* I've heard that this type of arrangement with your aunt doesn't look too good.

I agree with Amy. It could look strange that the beneficiary's extended family is going to be the co-sponsor as well as taking care of the petitioners personal needs [living arrangements, etc]. One needs to be careful that relationships can't be construed as business arrangements. And, please, in no way am I saying that's what's going on here - it's all about how things appear on paper and how a CO with just a few minutes of review will see it!

I'd be curious to see what others, especially with more knowledge of how Manilla works, would say.

Anyone over 18 and residing in the US - citizen or LPR - can be a co-sponsor.

Do inquire about the living arrangements in case they should pose a problem, though.

Good luck!

I agree with them.. no matter how real your relationship is, it will more likely appear false to the CO's eyes, more like fraud.. .your aunt being a co-sponsor and him living in your aunt's place will appear as red flags for the COs.. Philippines is one of the high fraud countries, so they are tight on this kind of set-up...better look for another co-sponsor,any of his family/relatives.. good luck!

Knowing how fraud looks like to a CO , here is what a CO will see. A poor US citizen was taken off the street by LPR in exchange for "helping" a close family member get into the US. Marrying too quickly will only make it look worse. If he is unemployed it would even look better if he stays there with you after you meet.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I really appreciate all of your inputs. Our relationship is real and the only reason he is with my aunt now is because he lived with his parents to take care of them. We thought it was a good idea for him to move with a relative of mine so that he can get used to the culture.

I do see everybody's point about this looking more like fraud. I now see it as how the embassy might see it. My bf and I will talk it over and we'll see what other options we can do.

Thank you all.
