So yesterday I had my medical at Dr. Michael Banbury,after almost 5 hours and US$260.52/JMD 22,600.00 poorer and 4 shots later. I can say it went fine, I don't know if i passed as they do not tell you anything. This is the process below;

1. Arrived @ 7am, the office opens and start registration @ 7:30am as it is 1st come 1st serve basis. During registration they ask for 3 passport photos, passport, interview letter (VERY IMPORTANT_DO NOT GO WITHOUT IT)immunization card and medical history form (can be downloaded from the NVC site. The register you by who was outside 1st. If you are 1st or close to the top you will do everything fairly quickly. (I was 2nd)

2. About 9am is when everything starts, You will 1st go to a nurse around the back of the office that will fill out another medical history form with you, she also does height, weight and blood pressure. When this is finish you will wait again in the waiting area, the nurse will be filling out the forms to send you to do the blood test and x-ray.

3. They will then send you to do X-ray and blood test, which is at 2 separate areas of the hospital. The medical lab is right beside the doctors office, however you will be competing with the regular patients of the hospital plus Dr. Althea Banbury medical patients as well. So its best to go early. They directed us to the lab first but when we arrived the technician instructed us to do the X-ray 1st, this is in the main part of the hospital.

4. The X-ray took about 20 mins and if you are female, you have to remove top half, put on robe then do x-ray they then tell you to wait while they check to see if you need to do it over, when you finish this you will then proceed to the lab. (normally lab 1st then x-ray but we did it x-ray then lab)

5. Then I went back to the lab, literally took 5 mins and that was it. All they test for now is VDRL (syphilis), I asked the lab tech and she said that's all they are looking for. Due to the fact that I had gone there 1st as i arrived i got tested. (After this it is back to the doctors office)

6. Went back to the doctor office where we had to now wait to see the doctor this is where they determine how much shots you will need. This took about 45mins, in his office he will check your ears then eyes. Then you will take off all your close and he does a thorough exam. He is very nice and it was very comfortable for me.

7. When you are finished with the doctor he send you back to the waiting room where you hand in everything to the nurse again, she will then tell you the cost and then the shots will be administered (20 mins or more waiting here again). I got 4 shots MMR, DT, Varicella, and I don't remember the fourth. The nurse will then attach the new shot records to your old immunization card, this should not be taken to the embassy as this is now your new information. The shots burn and they hurt a lot.

Overall good experience, hands still hurting from the shots and i have to wait till the 5th of June to call to see when to pick up my results.

The price you upaid - Im guessing you had to get all your vaccinations? Because the site says he should cost $100. So you were missing some or all your vaccines?

Its $110 for basic. I am fully immunized but had to get 4 additional shots, guessing booster shots. When you call they tell you the maximum money to carry is $28,000.00/ US $323.00. When you reach they calculate all that you do. Do not walk with $110.00 only you will not be charged that alone. I know people who have gone to all three places and nobody has paid the figure quoted on the site, they have all paid more.

$323 - ouch! And just lovely!! Thanks for the info. My fiance will be heading to Hope Medical - but sounds like its pretty much the same for all 3 places. Thanks again!

Thanks for the review... Very helpful. I think my fiancé will go to Hope as well, but they're all the same it seems. I told him to start double checking his shots with his personsl doctor and get boosters from now as needed (and get his shot record card updated). Is that ok you think? I assume we won't go through that part of the process for another 2 - 5 months

I think there is another thread about this topic somewhere. I'd ask or look around. Also, I know someone who recently got up and here and had no records either - so Hope Medical gave them to him at the time of his medical. I think he said he paid $18,000 to $20,000.

yes, i think if he can go and get the shots at a cheaper place then he will pay way less, i know the shots that are mandatory are free in Jamaica but he would have to go to a clinic to get those done.
