I'm in the same boat. Aside from CBP crossings, I have absolutely no primary evidence that we met. The first time I crossed the border I had to give them information on where I was going, they took my fiancees name and even her phone number, that is all that ties me to her. I always used cash and stayed with her family. The drive is less than 3 hrs for me. If we get an RFE, I was thinking of just getting a notarized document stating that we are physically standing there together, though someone mentioned that the evidence has to be dated before we applied. Not sure what I will do then. I wonder if we went to the Vermont Processing Center together if that would be enough proof ;-)

No receipts even when you paid cash? No phone bills? no chat logs? No picturs? You may have to resort to other evidence which usually is only used for other countries.

You're not going to Vermont anyway - it will either be Montreal or Vancouver and yes, you require proof before your application

I just wanted to point out that you will probably need the regular passport book eventually.. they will need to put the visa in there..

Actually I am the USC so I wont have a visa.. but, that is definitely a good point if I was needing a visa. :)

Well I just called USCIS and they told me that I needed to wait for an RFE if they need the bank statements for proof I was there, in his town, in the last 2 years. There is no way of sending it now. So I guess I will wait.

Rob & Monika, it is hard to prove when you are not thinking ahead. I never dreamed that a few receipts that I could have kept when I bought something at the grocery store or when I bought things for my kids while I was there would be so important. Since I can use my US currency there, it makes it easy not to go and have monies exchanged and such. I too stay with him to cut down on costs and because we don't want to miss a minute apart.

When you go to visit the one you love, visas, proof, and such(for the future) never really enters a persons mind unless they already have it set that they are going to be petitioning for a visa. It was all about spending time with him. Now that we are in this process, I see that all those little things are evidence that I need.

Live for today because you never know what tomorrow will bring!

Vermont is where they would flag it for RFE.

No 'primary evidence' that has my name on it, that I could remember until now. I have plenty of secondary evidence. I just realized I have roaming charges on my cell phone bill that puts me in Ottawa! I never used my cell to talk to her, I always used a skype phone line, so I didn't even think about it.

CarolAnn, it is hard, it's more than just keeping receipts. There is just so much to learn about this process, and I never realized how much was involved until I sat down and did it. Add in all the excitement from proposing to her and such, sometimes it was hard to think clearly reading all this stuff..lol, not to mention being someone who doesn't like to read the directions! This site has been great, especially just reading the forums daily to learn the process (though after the fact).

Hello all....

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I am in KY right now visiting my fiance and we are getting ready to submit.... I like CarolAnnandEddy don't have really anything but pictures. I actually thought about doing the "ransom" type picture with the newspaper as that really should work, but now I'm nervous.

I am not staying at a hotel so I don't have receipts, passport stamps or anything flight related as I drive too. I guess my question regarding the whole just buy something so you have a receipt has me concerned.... how do they know you made the purchase? Anyone could have. I withdrew money here, but stupidly didn't get a receipt with that and when I look at my banking info it just shows up as a bunch of letters.... nothing stating that I made a withdrawal in somerset ky...

I've read so many threads regarding this and it seems like it all depends on the person who is working on it at the service center and what kind of mood they are in.

So what should I do? go make a purchase and keep the receipt? with a printout of my bank statement? which will be off because of the currency conversion?

I think I already hijacked it!

If I were to do this over again, I would type up a statement indicating both of us were physically together, with a copy of our passports, and get it notarized. Can't get any more proof than a legal witness!

It is sooo much more than receipts and I as well never realized there was so much involved. I am just the opposite tho, I am a perfectionist when it comes to reading directions! But, I didn't have any of the primary evidence that was on the list I was reading so I went with secondary. Then I find out I could have sent bank statements. I did have a receipt from up there for a vet. We were getting his dog ready to come down here and I just paid for it with my debit card and he gave me the Canadian currency. (They didn't have change) However, I chose not to send the receipt because after I pulled it out of my file, I realized they had put Mr. & Mrs. as the owner of the dog. Figured that would be a huge red flag that I didn't need just because the receptionist assumed we were married. I have plenty of evidence of ongoing relationship, just that sticky little part of proving I was there face to face within last 2 years. I am thinking my bank statement is a lot better for this since it is only owned by me. Receipts don't show the purchaser unless it has your credit card or debit information on it.

We will get through this!!!

oops, sorry, I didn't read your post very carefully

hehe no worries
