Hi everyone, I'm a newbie so please bear with me.

I'm going to file my I-130 soon and want to bring my wife and stepdaughter here at the same time. It may sound like a dumb question but do I need to submit two different I-130 forms? One for my wife and one for my stepchild. Or, can I submit the I-130 and just add my daughter who is 3 years old to my wifes I-130 form?

also, Will the child need a passport during the process?

This forum has been a tremendous help for me so far, thanks for any help or replies.

Right now were in the process of getting full custody of the child which the courts should rule out in July.

upon recieving the I-130 I submit, will they request for a passport and updated birth certificate for the child? Or is this later in the process, NVC or interview phase.

Reason I'm asking is because i would like to get this application(I-130 X2) going as I know this is a very slow process.

Thanks again

Birth certificate will be for NVC stage, but not sure it has to be updated in any way. If an updated one becomes available it can be shown at the interview. I know in Colombia they like fresh documents, so I'm sure you'll have access to copies if you're dealing with the courts there. The passport will be necessary for the interview, so you can get your petition filed and have time to obtain those other documents.

You need a passport for you stepdaughter. I got a passport for my daughter (17 years old) when my husband (boyfriend in that moment heheheh!) asked me if I want to get married with him. My married was 1 month later and he brought all documents (Copy of birthday certificate, copy of passport, photos, ect.), I don't know if all the documents attached to the form I-130.

Anyway you need a passport for her.

Birth certificate for a step child is needed when filing the petition but date and place of birth, name, and parents' names do not change on birth certificates. For the step child, the birth certificate submitted with the petition will need a certified translation. Only the spouse birth certificate can wait until the NVC stage.

The eventual visa will be affixed to a page of the passport but that also is not needed for spouse or child until the NVC stage. Parental permission or court order is needed at the interview.
