Dr. James Wayman, a San Jose State University expert in the field of speech science, told The Daily Caller that he questions the grounds on which Owen based his analysis.

Wayman also said he would be willing to testify against the admissibility of Owen's findings on the grounds that they don't meet the criteria required for evidence in federal courts.

"There is no history of, or data on, the comparison of a questioned scream to a known speech sample," Wayman said.

The problem, he said, is that the two voice samples were recorded in difficult acoustic conditions over different cell phones.

"Even if we were to have Mr. Zimmerman recreate the scream under identical conditions with the same cell phone," Wayman explained, "it would be difficult to attribute the scream to him without a sample of a similar scream from Mr. Martin under the same conditions. This is clearly not possible."

That's kind of odd, don't you think? That a professor at a university questions the expert analysis of two independent forensic scientists, but doesn't go into any articulate detail of why he believes their analysis is faulty, but if his expertise is valued by Zimmerman's attorney, perhaps he'll be called to testify.

Audio analysts, Zimmerman's post-shooting phone records and testimony of his friends and family to be used by prosecutors in Trayvon Martin case

Monday, May 14, 2012

Six civilian witnesses were name (in a prosecution filing today): Trayvon's parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin; his brother, Jahvarius Fulton; and Zimmerman's neighbor, Frank Taaffe, friend Joe Oliver and father, Robert Zimmerman....

Crime scene photos of both Zimmerman and the teen are also listed in the documents filed Monday, as is Trayvon's autopsy report.

Also included in the evidence are phone records — Zimmerman's from Feb. 21 to Feb. 26 and from March 7 to March 22...

Five fire-rescue personnel are listed as witnesses. So are a fingerprints expert with Sanford police, and ...experts in the fields of firearms, DNA, trace evidence and fingerprints.

Also listed as witnesses are...a pair of Federal Bureau of Investigation audio experts. The list also includes Tom Owen and Ed Primeau, two audio analysts who told the Sentinel they believe the screams heard in one 911 call were those of Trayvon, not Zimmerman.

Also from the earlier link:

Dr. Philip Rose of the Australian National University told TheDC that scientific experts refer to Primeau’s method as “naïve voice recognition.” His influential 2002 book Forensic Speaker Identification draws a major distinction between naïve and “technical forensics” voice recognition.

“Naïve voice recognition is so prone to error that it is acknowledged that it is worthless as evidence,” Rose said via email.

And speaking of Owen’s findings, another industry insider said that “a legitimate biometrics expert would likely refute the contentions” and suggests that these were “incendiary publicity plays.”

I just think we should wait for the trial before we decide Zimmerman is a murderer.

Actually, it's going to boil down to whether the judge will accept those two forensic scientists analysis as evidence or not. I don't know if you've heard the audio, but that scream for help doesn't sound anything like Zimmerman. But lets assume it could be Zimmerman. He was able to scream for help, free up his arm, unholster his gun and shoot Martin with a lethal shot while supposedly getting his head bashed into concrete. While that scenario could be possible, it would be incredible. Again, if that's not Zimmerman's voice screaming for help, he's got a lot to answer for.

Perhaps you missed the part where Zimmerman lost Martin and was heading back to his SUV?

This is only what Zimmerman says happened. And fortunately for him , he is alive to give his account of what happened that night. It is therefore hardly considered fact.

It was his father's fiances neighborhood. I/e the kid hadn't been seen around there much, if at all. Again a STRANGER you've never seen before walking through your neighborhood. Think real hard about that. Yeah, it might be nothing, but sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry.

Ok, so following your line of thought. In your world, it would be perfectly ok to call 911 about a "strange person" in your neighborhood that was suspicious. Ok, now 911 tells you to STOP following that person, and they would take care of it. In your world, do you continue following the person in your car with a handgun?

In Zimmerman's world it's ok to dismiss the advice of the law. As he stated on the 911 call "they always get away" I guess he wanted to be SURE that Trayvon didn't get away.

See that's misconstrued. 911 said they didn't need him to do that. 911 is note a peaceofficer either. They're a dispatcher. That's it. They have zero authority.

After 17 home burglaries in my gated neighborhood in less than a yeas time all committed by black males and having thwarted one of those burglaries myself and being part of the neighborhood watch...you betcha.

I thought that one of the issues was that there were several inconsistencies with Z's statements to the police. He claimed one thing that the crime scene did not support and when confronted with that he changed his story to claim something else that didn't quite go along with other parts of his story and so on and so forth. I don't think the prosecution is going to bring on a case they know they can't win.

That's why I'm curious. I really don't think I've heard anything that actually solidly refutes Zimmerman's case, so I wonder what it is they have we haven't seen. The prosecution is usually much better about keeping their evidence out of the media than the defense is so maybe we are in store for some sort of bomb shell.

I know that "I could have maybe possible heard him utter under his breath "#######"" can't be it. If Casey Anthony's case had reasonable doubt, this one is screaming reasonable doubt so far.

That's not letting the police do their jobs. If you want a handgun in your house and defend yourself in your own home, that's fine. But it's foolish to do what he did. What is Trayvon had had a gun? Then Zimmerman would be dead and there would be a whole other story to tell.

"Let the police do their job" Do you have any idea why there are neighborhood watches in the first place? It's because there's not nearly enough police to respond to a call in a timely manor hence the fact that there were 17 home burglaries committed in that gated neighborhood in less than a years time.

As far as guns go...they are for protection. In this neck of the woods more people pack guns than don't pack. It protects people from getting their head bashed in. Zimmerman was well within Florida laws and the only reason this is going to trail is because of Obama, Eric Holder, Al Sharpton, Jess Jackson and the media.
