did this person consider the phd choice taken has a rather limited market?

It really is unfortunate that so many of the people in government and the financial services industry have so little awareness of history, especially of what happened 80 years ago. Those who are unaware of history are doomed to repeat it. Yes, history offers few job prospects. But it is a pity that within his predicament there were elements of an unrealized potential to have avoided the overall mess that we all now are forced to deal with.

Not worth going to school if you still need government help glad i never went college is a waste.

I went to college and it was worth every bit of money I spent on it.

Some people obtain knowledge, others obtain wisdom, some have both. Sadly, most get neither!

Being a life time student doesn't pay off much these days.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Get your degree in something relevant and you will never lack for employment. We cry for senior engineers and all we get are applications from history majors, drama majors, and of course "deviant sexual behavior" psychologist wannabes. Good lord, I am 64 years old and just got my arm twisted into another five year gig at well into six figures per year.

Anyone who says college is a waste, is full of it, you just need to work on a speciality in demand. I was 48 when I obtained my first Masters of Aeronautical Science degree.

A PhD by itself is a stupid idea unless you want to be in academia. Otherwise, it's a waste of time.

A PhD in history is an even bigger waste of time.

I don't like it that the job situation is so bad that PhD holders are on food stamps. I wish everyone could get a PhD in Goldfish Maintenance even and still get a job. But the reality is these days the world is extremely competitive and only certain fields are in demand. History is not one of them. A lot of people study easier MA's/PhD's because they think having those letters in their resume will help. It doesn't.
