Compaq Presario 3000

My Dad bought me a Compaq Presario 3000 last year after my sony viao died on me and let me just say it was the worst computer I have ever had.

First of all it was so heavy and bulky that it totally defeated the purpose of having a laptop. The keyboard was just terrible- my hands literally hurt if I typed for more than 3 minutes because I had to push down on the keys so hard.

About 8 months into having it it would make tons of noise and get really hot and just shut off. I couldn't even open an PDF file without it shutting down. I would have to stack up about 3 books to put the computer on so that air could circulate. I sent it back to Compaq and they fixed it then about 5 months later it started doing the same thing again and they told me it would cost at least 300 dollars to fix. No thanks.

Has anyone else had this bad of an experience with a Compaq laptop or are you guys just not stupid enough to even buy one in the first place? I am curious to know if it was just my computer or if others had the same experience.

K just wondering,

Sarah

Another thing is that the power cord didn't stay in the computer very well. If the computer moved one bit it would unplug. So annoying!

Only time I ever had a presario was when I rented one (from Rent-a-centre) to see my wedding photos. Very badly maintained, and could not even read some DVD's, and lots of migraines dealing with RAC. When the contract was up, I asked RAC to come and pick up its junk (good riddance).

Yeah I was definitely not sad to see mine go to hell. Sounds like your sucked too.

Never had one but thanks for the report. Good to know.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Don't like Dells entirely (I have a Dell laptop from work).

The one I have at home is a no-brand machine I ordered off e-bay with 280 GB hard drive, DVD burner. Also ordered monitor (19" LCD) and printer (Dell 720) through e-bay.

Reason I don't really like Dell is that they absolutely refuse to acknowledge the availability of aftermarket parts/supplies (the price for a four-pack of Dell SAMPLE cartridges was about THRICE what I would pay for NuKote refillable cartridges--for Dells--at Target).

Among name brands, IMO, the best are HP and (surprise) IBM.

AST a little lower than these, but OK.

I guess the atrocity of Presario is why Circuit City always seems to be having sales on them.

I don't have a printer so I don't have to worry about cartridges. I do love the dell though.

The fact that I had ULTIMATELY LOSING bids on several Dells may be a good indication of their quality.

vs. ONE bid on a presario which was withdrawn for ebay TOS violations.

I think you are the first person I have seen who really hates Dells.

What about just the computer how do you like it without thinking about cartridges?

Well, my Dell is ####### and it's an Inspiron. Year old. They also charge you very little for printers and you think you have a bargain...until you need new ink cartridges and find that they are extortionately priced. THAT's why they are so bloody cheap.

Oh great!

Well hopefully the new Dell Inspiron has been improved or something. I like it so far.

My Dad uses Dells and Hp's where he works and he said both are great. He said he never had a problem with his Dell and I guess he found this one for a good price so that's that.

Yeah, I only really purchased a Dell cos it was cheap and I needed a laptop quick to replace my old desktop. It was fine for the first 6 months or so, then just started to slow up and then became pretty unresponsive to many commands. Now it just does what it wants to be honest. It gets swear words thrown at it on a regular basis. If you could get done for Computer Abuse I'd be guilty as charged... ;)

This MAY be because I have something evil on it (despite running pretty good scans on it), I really won't know til I get to the USA and my own personal computer expert (i.e. my fiance  ) gives it the once over.

The way to find out if you love someone or not, is by talking to them.

The more you talk to them the more you either hate them or love them.
