Question about original birth cert. in Ukraine for interview

Sasha was born when Ukraine was still part of the U.S.S.R. Her original birth certificate is from the U.S.S.R. She has taken all of her documents to be translated today, so that she would have them all prepared for the interview, and the translation official told her that her birth certificate should be remade as a Ukrainian one, that there is a new form that she should have had it re-done on.

I am not sure if this is true or not, as everything I have read has asked for the original b.c.

I am hoping that another couple here of VJ from Ukraine could authenticate this for me, and let me know what worked for them at thier interview.

It seems to me, that almost everybody of legal marrying age in Ukraine would have a b.c. generated in the U.S.S.R. because of the youthful age of the country. Is it really reasonable to generate new birth certificates for a whole country!?! :D lol

The only thing I can add is that my lady was born in Moldova (when it was a part of the FSU). She is also getting it redone. Normally I would have suggested to my lady to just translate the one she has and then work on correcting the archive after I submitted our petition but do to errors on other needed documents I did not object to letting her get them all "corrected" up front. My personal opinion is that a bc is a bc and the USCIS truly should not care. I am an advocate of getting the archive correct but........ I wish I had a definitive answer for you.

YMMV

fwaguy, thanks for your reply. I am probably going to just tell her to use the original, because that is specifically what the Packet 3 asks for. I agree with you, a b.c. is a b.c no matter where it was issued or what the country was called at the time. Still looking for more info though. I am hoping to get a reply from a couple who has already had the interview at the embassy, because I am curious to see what was required of them.
