If you don't make 125% of the poverty guidelines for a household of the size you will be when your fiance arrives, you can have someone else co-sponsor. Basically they would also turn in the income verifications you get asked for once your K-1 is approved by USCIS. And they would agree to help make sure your fiance does not become a burdon on the state.

That, as I understand it, is how it works.

If you make greater than 125% you won't need a co-sponsor. Good luck!

PS- This is not expert advice.

I was co-sponsor for both my 2 cousin's husbands petitions when they applied for their immigration since both made less than the poverty line limits (both were in college and only worked part-time). Since they are the primary petitioner, they have to be the primary sponsor for their husband and need to fill out the affidavit of support for themselves and submit the required forms. I was their husbands co-sponsor and needed to also fill out the required co-sponsor forms as well as my last 3 yrs IRS returns and proof of income (such as current pay stubs or employer letter).

When I filled out my husband's affidavit of support, I also needed to fill out the required forms as well as resubmit the most recent 3 yrs IRS returns and also list that I have previously submitted a co-sponsor for my cousin's husbands in my affidavit of support for my husband. You will need to remember the dates you submitted their co-sponsor affidavit of support forms and names of their husbands as well as DOB since you need to list it in the I-864 when you fill it out.

Hope that helps.
