Stereotypical Canada in TV

So watching America's Next Top Model last night and they flew all the people to Toronto for Toronto Fashion Week. I was like ok cool, I grew up with this as a kid. Jay Manual who is from Toronto and now lives and works in LA for the show, took them all there. I was thinking it would be edgy and non-typical Canada.

First off, I'm sick of hearing the "Toronto, Canada" thing. They do this on wrestling, and on this show and all the others. I'd think Jay would have said at least Toronto, Ontario, Canada, but no. It's not like we say Miami, USA or Los Angeles, United States. We say Miami, Florida or Los Angeles, California.

Next they were outside and you could tell it had rained a bit, so figuring it was done in fall. It looked like they were all freezing to death and Jay was saying everyone get in and get warm. Another stupid stereotype.

Finally what did the models have to do for their photo shoot? Yep, dress up in stupid maple leaves and have crappy maple syrup poured on them. Ugh, it was so bad and lame.

I just wish TV/Movies would show a much more edgier and realistic view of Canada rather than these embarrassing things. Hell have them model in the riots or something. Give Canada at least something memorable rather that this same old #######.

Ok that was my Thursday morning rant :)

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

Oh, I have my own rant for our marriage certificate. We got married in the US, and for both the groom and bride, it lists the residence of each.

My husband's: Aberdeen, Brown, South Dakota

(city, county, state)

Mine: Rosemere, 0000, Quebec Province of Quebec

They just made doubly sure you were from Quebec!!

That's funny.

His other rant is when we American's say 'We're going to Canada' Not 'We're going to Manitoba' or 'We're going to Toronto' it's always just Canada.

Yeah, but I understand just saying Canada some times as those Americans without Canadian families probably don't know the provinces, thus it's easier to just say "Canada". Like, here in the US, if someone asks me where I'm from, I tend to just say "Montreal, Canada". When I mention Quebec, I get blank stares, but as soon as I say Montreal, they recognize the name headbonk.gif

This made me laugh out loud! So true - I used to live in St Stephen, NB which is on the border with Calais, Maine and we would say that were going to Calais. The Americans would say they were going to Canada!

I believe Canadians are more geographically aware compared to Americans. Most Americans don't even know how many provinces we have (or as I've heard them call it: states headbonk.gif)

Ten provinces! I only know that because my husband's friend made him "do a Canada" (a shot for each province) at his bachelor party...but I can't find a reference to that challenge anywhere on the internet, so maybe his friend is just cruel. :D

Max refuses to wear red plaid to avoid looking like a stereotype.

Yay, an American that actually knows! *throws confetti in the air* My own husband doesn't even know headbonk.gif He can probably name just Quebec (since I lived there) and Manitoba (where he flew out of once), and that's it.

Any chance you know how many territories we have? :P

I remembered where Calgary was because of the '88 winter Olympics. My sister had such a crush on Brian Boitano. And Cheerios was putting Olympic coins in their boxes and I ate a TON of cheerios so I could get all the coins. I still have them :)

My grandfather used to drive a long haul truck. He took Jeeps to Manitoba and brought back Crown Royal from Gimli.
