Every member of the EPA and anyone who signs off on this garbage should be arrested for treason against the American people. Using Faux/unproven science to create bullshit rules/regulations without an act of congress is sad/pathetic and the left-win nazis that support this are just as bad.

New standards for carbon dioxide emissions from power stations issued by the US government’s Environmental Protection Agency would in effect ban the construction of any new coal-fired plants.

The regulations are the latest move in the EPA’s drive to regulate CO2 because of its contribution to the threat of global warming, which has led to the agency coming under fire from Republican politicians and some industry groups.

The EPA said in a statement: “Greenhouse gas pollution threatens Americans’ health and welfare by leading to long lasting changes in our climate that can have a range of negative effects on human health and the environment.”

The rules will apply only to new plants.

The standards impose a limit of 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emitted for each megawatt hour of electricity generated – a level that will make it impossible to build new coal-fired plants without equipment to capture and store at least some of their emissions. Modern gas-fired plants, however, would be allowed without any additional modifications.

Research for the UK government last year found that a typical modern combined cycle gas turbine plant would emit about 780 pounds of CO2 per megawatt hour, while an advanced “super-critical” coal plant would emit about 1,600lbs per MWh.

Kevin Kennedy of the World Resources Institute, an environmental think-tank, welcomed the move, but urged the EPA to tackle existing plants as well.

He said: “Existing plants represent a significant opportunity to improve efficiency and reduce US greenhouse gas emissions. We can achieve these reductions at low cost while providing power plants flexibility in complying with them.”

Yeah, ** Nixon. I'd like to see the Cyuahoga River on fire again. And Lake Erie dying. I hate not having to worry all that much about drinking my tap water. And I really take issue with breathable air. What the ** was Nixon thinking? What kind of an America is this where rivers ain't burning, lakes ain't dying, tap water doesn't kill us and the air doesn't make us sick?

True.

The Prius is actually powered by burning coal. Very environmentally friendly indeed.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

That's photoshopped.

It is not. That was pre-smog control on automobiles. The air is much cleaner today. Say what you want, pollution control on vehicles has made a huge difference in air quality. And that's not even mentioning how much industry has been cleaned up during the same time frame. The environmental laws dealing with these two problems worked well to clean up the skies over our cities.

I see you have a penchant for history, Yeah Nixon solved those problems the Dems only made speeches about.

It's 2012, make your case for their continued existence now...... and Job security for Gov't barnacles does not count.

True. I remember the air quality of many major cities. L.A. Was bad but Houston was real bad. It is a lot better.

I remember L.A. air was a dingy yellow in the afternoon.

So you're saying scrap the EPA and we wouldn't find ourselves back where we started prior to 1970? Is that your case against the EPA? If so, that's weak.
