If they did not believe the relationship Cairo would have denied at the interview.

Usually if the send the file for Mandatory AP immediately then it is just background checks and he has nothing to worry about. It will just take time to perform the checks.

Sometimes they do internal AP first and this is where they want to make sure about the relationship and documents then they will send it to Mandatory AP.Since she said Congrats then he should be ok and just try and wait for the name checks to get done

Cairo is known for not allowing new evidence at the interview.

Sometimes they ask to see one document or some pics but not usually

I think he would have known if she did not believe of the relationship because of the interview questions.

The questions they asked sounds like they were pointing to maybe... you petitioning foreigners history so that is usually a red flag. They might want to check and make sure he is not related to your daughters ex-fiance or that he is not a friend of anyone in your past.

I think it is just Mandatory AP.

DOS has the information

The embassy will have the most up to date info. So when the visa is issued embassy will tell you 2 days before DOS

But DOS will know if it is in Mandatory AP

I am sure that he is in AP because it is almost a necessary when dealing in MENSA countries, I have had the displeasure of going through this with my ex's brothers who applied for student visas years ago.

What is DOS? and how do I contact them? and if they were checking our relationship, wouldn't they have asked him to see more documentation.... he took a load of stuff with him to the interview and when he asked if she would like to see; she refused.....????

DOS means Department of State. DOS information: DOS can be contacted Monday through Friday during business hours. You must have all information concerning your case with you so that they can assist you.

Department of State’s visa Information phone number: 202-663-1225

Good luck!!

FINALLY got the whole story and seen the "WHITE PAPER"... he says they actual did not ask much about us, our relationship... just what I did for work, and how we met... and how many times I visited. When he told them how we met, (A mutual friend that he worked with in UK) they had more questions about her staying with him in his home, when she visited Egypt, than about our relationship.... he also told me that they asked him extensively about my daughter's K1 visa petition than ours.

The "WHITE PAPER" is the one that you receive if you are missing documents, and must return something..... and the only thing that is checked is PASSPORT, he must return his passport to the embassy with DHL when they call him for it. She told him within 6-8 weeks

Um yeah, like I said before, AP. Sorry if you don't want to hear that then why get on here and ask?

This is the e-mail I sent to the embassy and their reply:

To whom it may concern:

My fiance had a k1 visa interview today, the interviewer was polite and everything went well. But I have questions about the next steps. He was told "congratulations you have been approved" from the interviewer. But she returned his passport along with a general form and told him "We will call you in 6-8 weeks to have you send in your passport for issuing your visa." She did not tell him he needed additional proof of relationship, or additional documents, or even if he had to undergo administrative processing.

We have made travel and wedding plans for an April 7, 2012 wedding and reception

My questions are ....

Why would she return his passport if the embassy will be issuing him a visa?

Why will it take 6-8 weeks before he can send his passport in?

How long after receiving his passport will he wait for the visa to be issued and returned to him?

And...

What can we do to help speed the process up?

Reply:

Please note that the case is currently undergoing mandatory administrative processing. The time needed to review an individual’s case is difficult to predict. Once this process is completed, we will process the case to conclusion.

At this stage no additional information is required regarding the proof of relationship, or additional documents. The officer returned the passport as a new procedure not keep passports at the Embassy, once this process is completed, we will call him to send in his passport. The processing time frame is difficult to predict, we don’t have control over this process as it is conducted in Washington D.C.

So, at least they answered me quickly, and honestly. Now I am just hoping the time will pass quickly, and that it will take les than 6 weeks. B-)
