Hi... quick question. Can my fiance who is fluent in both French and English, translate his own birth certificate

for the AOS package?

I believe you cannot translate the documents yourself or have your fiance do it.

However, i had my father translate documents for me and all he did was fill out a certification of translation, signed dated and notorized...with the following template or a similar one you can edit on your own

CERTIFICATE OF TRANSLATION

I, (name of translator), am competent to translate from ______ to English, and certify that the translation of

__________________________________ is true and accurate to the best of my abilities.

I translated everything for my husband. Not sure if you can do it for yourself though... definitely add the translator statement.

Yes, you can have your fiance translate their birth certificate. Pui did her own for the K-1 process and for the AOS process. Here is what it says from the USCIS website.

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

Signature_________________________________

Date Typed Name

Moved from IR-1/CR-1 Process & Procedures to Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from Family Based Visas; OP indicated they are about to start the Adjustment of Status process and information indicates AOS will be done from a K1 visa.

I know I can do the translations myself....but does anyone know If I need to write out the certification for EVERY document, or can I mention them all as documentS in one certification? (ALL the evidence of my husband and I is in spanish, it would kill a lot of trees to print out that little certification so many times).

I would think you could attach one certification by paper-clipping them altogether and having it read like this instead:

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached documents are an accurate translation of the documents attached entitled ______________________________. <--List the names of all the documents in that space instead of just one title for one document.

I did not ever file for a spousal visa, but the reason is most likely that the important legal documents need to be translated but the extra evidence of relationship like emails and such are for the consulate and do not need to be translated if in English or the native language of the country where you will interview.

question for those who did their own translations....how did you handle stamps, barcodes, signatures, and other non alphanumeric items in your documents? (for example, the notary´s stamp, or the country´s seal on the marriage cert).

Here's a copy of the one I did for myself My link all the sensitive information was modified, but you should be able to get an idea. I don't know how others do theirs, I used one from a Public Translator as reference.
