Green card received for K-2

Hi all-

Well, today-almost exactly 11 months after her initial AOS interview she had with her mother (and 21 months since first filing), Carina's green card arrived in the mail.

For those of you who don't know the whole story, Carina's mother was approved at the interview and received her green card within a few weeks, while Carina was told her FBI namecheck was not back yet so she was approved "pending the namecheck".

After patiently waiting, then writing letters to the Chicago DO, Senator Obama, Congressman Kirk, the first lady (yes, of the USA), and the USCIS Ombudsman, and then receiving a letter from the FBI stating not only had the namecheck request not been received, but also advised over the phone by the FBI that her biometrics were never received. After all this USCIS finally realized they better re-submit the name check request (was formally requested in July 2006), and that they had better get new prints for her too as a new biometrics letter was sent early September 2006.

So then after all of that there was finally some movement and she has her card. This is why I am posting the following again (I also posted this in the official namecheck thread) for those who still may be waiting:

To all of those still waiting for the FBI name check, please make sure that you received the confirmation status e-mail and/or on-line status update stating that your biometrics had been recd and processing will continue. This should have been updated within a few weeks after your initial biometrics appointment.

If you did not receive the update after biometrics (or even if you did!) PLEASE call the FBI fingerprint status number (I believe it is 1-304-625-2000 but it may have changed) and request status. This is to make sure your BIOMETRICS was received. (not your name check) The FBI still gives status on biometrics, but not on namechecks.

I sincerely believe that the delay for Carina was due to the biometrics being "lost"or done incorrectly, and her file just sat on a desk until I contacted several people to have the delay looked into. Once I did that her namecheck was requested, and then new fingerprints ordered and then she had her approval.

The reason I noticed this is because my wife DID get the update after biometrics (and she was approved at the interview) while Carina did NOT get the update (biometrics were the same day as her mother's) and unknowingly we waited for 11 months for an approval thinking it was the namecheck that was the problem, when in my opinion the actual problem was the "missing" biometrics.

I am not saying the relation between the biometrics and namecheck is the reason for all the delays, but I really think it is worth checking into.

Dave, I agree with you. Even though my online status was touched the day after Biometrics, our DAO asked if I had them done which made me wonder...

I had my biometrics for the AOS taken back in June. Two days later the date on the online case status changed. The wording is still the same "...Your I485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status was received on June 7, 2006. We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete. You can use our processing dates to estimate when this case will be done. Follow the the link below for current processing dates...."

So, should the text actually say anything that I got my biometrics done?

The way I remember it (and unfortunately I do not have a printed copy of it) is that after Marina's biometrics were taken shortly thereafter her case was updated with a message stating "your biometrics report has been received and processing has continued on your case..." or something to that effect.

It's possible your biometrics are fine since you haven't had your interview yet but I still think calling the FBI to be sure is worth it. That way if you get to the interview and they tell you the name check hasn't cleared you can ask them if the biometrics have anything to do with it (if the FBI states they have not received them).
