Can I get married in the US if my fiancé and I both live in Sweden?

I'm sorry if this question has been addressed...I really did read through the postings and DCF guidelines!

I am American, my fiancé is Swedish. I plan on moving to Sweden this Fall/Winter (my residence permit is processing) and spending at least the next 2 years in Sweden. My fiancé plays ice hockey in Sweden and therefore we won't be moving to the US until after he has retired from that.

Here's my question:

We want to get married in May 2008 in the United States, can we?

Yes, you can get married in the United States. All you have to care about are the local laws and regulations. If you are dreaming of a Vegas wedding (no matter if with Elvis or not) there are just a few rules you have to follow and the wedding can take place in one hour or less.

yes, you can marry where you like; you will qualify for Dirct Filing because you'll be resident abroad.

Can't remember if I mentioned it before, but do some studying up on the things you can/should do while you are away to make your return easier. Things like US banking, voting, tax paying (filing anyway) etc will all help show that you trip abroad, even for two years, is still called 'temporarily resident abroad' and that your domicile can be in the US even when you are not.

If/when you come to the US for a wedding, evidence of YOUR residence abroad will help with any questions about his immigrant intent.
