Neither England nor Spain are under a belligerent foreign occupation, and foreign occupation forces are not the ones conducting those demolitions, so the Geneva Convention does not apply to those examples.

However, the Convention does apply to the vast majority of Israeli demolitions of Palestinian homes in the West Bank and Gaza:

The Occupying Power cannot, unless absolutely prevented to do so, change the laws of the territory it occupies (see Article 43 of the Hague Regulations). Regardless of the scope of administrative powers of the occupying state, Article 53 of the Fourth Geneva Convention prohibits any destruction of property that is not absolutely necessary by military operations.

...

Any destruction by the Occupying Power of real or personal property belonging individually or collectively to private persons, or to the state, or to other public authorities, or to social or cooperative organizations, is prohibited, except where such destruction is rendered absolutely necessary by military operations.

...

A house can be demolished only if such demolition is absolutely necessary in the context of the given military operation. It implies that:

i) The individual house was offering an essential and immediate contribution to the enemy's military operation and was, therefore, endangering the security of the occupation forces;

ii) The demolition of the house was, at the time, an adequate response to that specific threat and there was no less intrusive response possible;

iii) The demolition of the house offered concrete military advantages that outweigh the damage caused to the civilian asset and its consequences on the life of Palestinian individual and families.

...

Finally, under Article 147 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, the extended demolition of property, private and public, carried out unlawfully and wantonly may amount to a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention, commonly referred as a war crime.

Certainly with regards to Spain most houses belong to non Spaniards.

In the Spanish example most houses do not belong to Spaniards.

Settler colonialism lol.

Spain let the Brits build some house in Gibraltar 300 years ago and hasn't been able to get rid of them since. Now the British are trying the same thing in Albox?

I say Spain has every right to protect their sovereignty.

To be fair, they are not just picking on the English, Dutch, German etc, mainly it seems North Europeans.

It was easier to find English sources.

In no case did the foreigners' home countries propose that the act of their citizens buying or building houses in Spain somehow constituted a transferral of national sovereignty over that property from Spain to the foreign countries.

The OP's definition.

The OP as in "Original Post" did not state anything of the kind. Neither has the OP as in "Original Poster" stated anything of the sort.

Sorry I mean in the context of the article, not you personally.

The article is discussing settlements that the government of Israel built illegally on Palestinian land that it seized in the West Bank, outside the internationally-recognized sovereign borders of Israel, and which it colonized with Israeli civilians transferred from Israel - acts that are violations of U.N. agreements and the Geneva Convention.

There is a clear international consensus on where the borders of Israel are recognized to be: as has been re-affirmed over and over for the past 63 years, Israel's sovereign territory does not include the West Bank and Gaza beyond the 1967 armistice lines, and any change to those borders must be negotiated with the Palestinians. Israel does not have any right to build Israeli colonies in this territory, nor to demolish Palestinian homes for any reason not specifically described in the Geneva Convention.

Right and the spanish model has many similarities to how those borders were created in the first place.

In Gibraltar, The British ran the Spanish out and said "Hey this is ours". Off course this never would have happened if the Spanish hadnt first kicked all the Jews out of Gibraltar. I think maybe god is just punishing the Spanish.
