The marriage gap

Republicans control 49 of the 50 districts with the highest rates of married people.

Democrats represent all 50 districts that have the highest rates of adults who have never married.

The political tug-of-war is between people who are married and those who have never been.

The “never married” group covers a variety of groups who form the Democratic base: young people, those who marry late in life, single parents, gays, and heterosexuals who live together.

Hm. When people get married and live somewhere with lots of other married people like a suburb, they get comfortable. Can't be bothered with thinking when you've got to get yellow ribbon stickers for your SUV.

That's how it looks in my parents' neighborhood anyway.

PS this is in response to the "Republican" identification, not conservative.

These days that party seems to represent a whole host of ideas that have nothing to do with conservatism.

Churchill is credited as once saying "If you're not a liberal when you're 25, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative by the time you're 35, you have no brain." so maybe it's that marriage coincides with growing older? lol

And heathen, blue Massuchesetts has one the lowest divorce rates (if not hte lowest). Red states have some of the highest. Go figure.

I think when Churchill said that George W. Bush had not yet been born.

blue states... red states... whats with all the labels?

also.. have a link that proves "red" states have a higher divorce rate than the coasts??

Yeah, my folks think like you do there. But on their whole street there are only 2 other non-Repubs, out of 20 houses.

LOL I live in Democrat-occupied territory, central New Jersey. I don't think most people here even believe the Republican party exists. The GOP out here is just a scary myth, a scary story kids tell each other during slumber parties.
