Iv'e always been a fan of bread pudding, but the recipe passed down in my family has been watered down through the years to; milk, eggs, bread, and sugar along with cinnamon. Anyone have a decent bread pudding recipe they wouldn't mind sharing on here? :)

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Good question... I love my mother's bread pudding but I'll have to wait to ask her for the recipe! However, I can't recall that, apart from sultanas, she adds much else to her recipe.

Now I've been reminded that I haven't had bread pudding in several years! Certainly not since before I moved here. :o

I looked up some recipes on the net before Thanksgiving, and they were nothing like my mom makes...I mean her bread pudding is ghetto and I'm not sure if that's how it was meant to be...although my grand mum made hers pretty much the same way. I'm guessing either someone along the line got lazy and screwed it up for everyone else, or maybe that's how bread pudding is supposed to be and the internet recipes are going a bit over board.

I'll ask my boyfriend -- he's a trained pastry chef, and I know he has a couple of bread pudding recipes. His apple cobbler was the hit of Thanksgiving, along with his homemade vanilla bean ice cream. His recipes aren't fancy, just simple and delicious.

I wish there were still cobbler left over. :(

I'm all for good food no matter where the recipes come from. The thing I'm worried about with the bread pudding is that Americans have a tendency to take recipes from other nationalities, put their own spin on it and still call it by the original name. I mean there's nothing wrong with that as long as those recipes have an asterisk next to them along with a small notation (the ones on the net that is). I do thank you though Maven if you don't mind posting that recipe on here. I plan on doing the bread pudding thing this Christmas and I'm trying to get a menu put together well before that.

Bread pudding is a good call for Xmas, but I am doing mince pies. Christmas is, after all, just one big excuse to eat mince pies.star_smile.gif

Oh god not minced pies. :( Iv'e tried to eat those and I just can't do it. It's right up there with eating beets. Bread pudding, cranberry and apple stuffing, oyster stuffing (my favorite)...but have to say nay on the mince pies.
