This is clearly answered in the instructions for this and all applications used by the USCIS.

Copies: Unless specifically required that an original document be filed with an application or petition, an ordinary legible photocopy may be submitted. Original documents submitted when not required will remain a part of the record, even if the submission was not required.

Always, always, always given them a copy. Take the original to an interview to SHOW it to them but have a copy available to give to them. You NEVER want to give up an original as it is the original.

You may have to send original Affidavit of Birth since it is not your birth certificate.

You only have one Original Birth Certificate, but you can have as many as you want for affidavit.

Well I will try sending just a copy thinking that I had to pay 89,00 pounds to get the Affidavit and just to get a copy of the original affidavit will cost me another 30,00 pounds!!:wacko:
