I'll dare to confirm the following prediction: An approval is almost garanteed if the petitioner (USC) accompanies the beneficiary to the interview. I'm living proof. I kid you not, the lady didn't even cared for one single paper we took to the interview. Everything is neatly sealed in envelopes, exactly how packed them. Not even one picture, not one phone bill, not one letter, not even a text message. Nada. She just looked at him and asked him a couple of questions. Then asked me like 4 questions; followed by 3 questions directed at both of us. Then she said: "I'm gonna go ahead an approve your visa. You'll receive it in 10 days." There again, we had a solid case. We front loaded it and I make enough money to sponsor him, which is the first thing they look at. In fact, the lady that took care of us before the interview had our file opened in my I-134 and paystubs. She took a calculator and made allt he math needed to check my finances.

For your benefit I will share with you the questions asked:

To him-

How did you meet?

when did you meet?

To me-

When did you come to Egypt and for how long?

What do you do for a living?

When did you come the second time and for how long?

Is this the third time in 10 months you come to Egypt?

To both-

Have you been married before?

Children?

What are your ages?

To him-

What are your plans in the US?

How will your wedding be, civil or religious? Where?

For each question that required evidence, I offered it, but she didn't want to see it. That's it!

And yes, it is also true: if you do not have a solid case and the beneficiary goes alone, more than likely s/he will be awkwardly interrogated. I heard many consulars being less than friendly with the customers.

Congratulations. I wonder what fraction of K-1s have the sponsor come to the interview? It's certainly my intent, and it seems like some consulates unofficially require it; still, with the overall K-1 approval rate at 99.2% (including appeals), I wonder how much difference it really makes in a typical case?

First and foremost, congratulations on receiving your visa. I wish I could have had the same experience as you did. I had accompanied my fiance during his interview in Abu Dhabi and the consular officer repeatedly said everything was fine-paperwork and interview, but we weren't granted a visa on the spot. Instead, she handed us the 221 g and even though no further documents were needed, we are now in administrative processing stage. It has now been close to 90 days (Dec. 10th marks our 90 day mark). Hmm..anyhow, I think each case is unique and consider yourself lucky!

My wife and I were just approved a bit ago. I went with her to the interview as well. She was refused entry to the states at the Canadian/American border (beware!) once so we thought we were going to have a lot of trouble. The officer asked us each 2-3 questions and then asked about the refusal. My wife told her story (she didn't have a plane ticket out of the country) and he said he needed to read our case but we didn't need to be there for it. Long story short, we got our visa 2 days later. It was a great day. I am sure you know the feeling.

I meant to especifically talk about Egypt's consulate where is somewhat more selective in handing approvals. In fact, there was a married guy on the window right next to mine who was denied. My heart sank for him, bless his heart. Apparently his wife and sponsor didn't make enough money and there was another reason. I just heard it since they speak thru a mic and anyone nearby can hear it. Since it is a numbers game, I don't know how much impact it would've caused should his wife had been there. However, Egypt is known for denying married visas because they're not convinced of bonafide relationship. So, in a case like that, having the spouse there would be beneficial.

ANyways, Thanks all for your congratulatory messages. We have been so stressed out, to the point that we slept immediately after the interview for like 3 hours and then slept 12 hours straight after diner!
