Is there a US consulate in Calgary?

There is a consulate in Calgary yes, but it doesn't really matter as far as a K1 visa goes. Only the Vancouver and Montreal embassy do K1 interviews. I don't know if that's what you were wondering, otherwise, here is the website: http://www.amcits.com/calgary.asp

Donkey's-years ago (I know at least till 1985), the Calgary consulate did immigrant visa interviews as well (my sister had hers issued there that year). It does visitor (and maybe student) visas (mostly for Canada PR holders).

It is a very strange logic that all Immigrant Visa (including CR-1) interviews have to be done at Montreal when Calgary has the largest number of USC's (about 200,000--counting both those born in US and their Canada-born children) of any Canadian city.

We sure wished we could have gone to Calgary for my husband's (then-fiancee's) K-1 interview! It was much closer to Saskatoon than Vancouver was.

Anyway, Vancouver was nice, if overwhelming. We would've liked it more if our visa interview had been more straightforward. As it was, he had to be fingerprinted and our decision was delayed a couple of weeks, so we were pretty stressed out.

Conditions Removed! Ten-year green card received 6/24/2009. No more USCIS for a very long time.

As for me, immigrant visa processing at Calgary would have saved me about C$500 in lodging costs in December 1999 (when I had an interview in Montreal for EB-3 GC).

I would figure just based on size that Canada should have immigrant visa processing at all of their US consulates. But I guess they're understaffed er sumthin.

And what about the stretch of logic to put it in a province which agitates oft about "separation"? Potentially (almost no chance, as QC has too good a deal--which it ain't getting elsewhere--to actually carry out this threat), Canadians wanting to do consular Immigrant Visa interview (CR-1, IR-1, EB-n) would have to do their interview OUTSIDE their own country!

I'm sure if that happened, they would open up an Immigrant Visa Post elsewhere...

But I agree, I was surprised that all of Canada had only one IV unit (Montreal) and only gave permission to process K petitions to only one other Consulate ( Vancouver)

I live in Calgary and as we have just started this process I was completely surprised to find out my Husband will have to travel to Montreal.

It seems to me the only 'logic' applied is some kind of political favor! How else can you explain only having 1 place to interview for the I-130 in this huge country?

You wil llearn along tyhe way there is no logic to this immigration process!! two people can start the process at the exact same time, go through the same servioce centres, yet finish up at way different times. Keep the logic out of the process, and u will cope a lot better!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

That would be so nice if Calgary did K1/K3/CR1 Visas. It is only a 3 hour drive from Edmonton.

Ditto Stacey.

NYCityGirl: You can file your I-130 at ANY consulate in Canada (check www.amcits.com), but only MTL processes immigrant visas. If you're going for a K-1 or K-3, then you can process through Vancouver as well.

Hope this helps!

I may be incorrect 9as I often am) but not just anyone can file ur I-130 at any Cdn consulate, which I belive what is known as DCF. There are rules for that as well,as I belive the US citizen must be residing in Canada.

I am from Calgary and had to go to Vancouver for my k1 visa interview. It turned to be a very nice trip and an opportunity to see Victoria and Vancouver. When I first learned they don't do K1 in Calgary, I was dissapointed, but now I am glad I had a chance to spend few days in Vancouver.

Good Luck with your interview!

well this totally sucks... i guess i didn't do enough reading ahead of time, or look in the right places, but i thought since Calgary has an embassy, that i could do my interview there :(

does anyone know if you can choose which consulate you would like to do your interview at? or is it decided for you? also, and in my reading i haven't come across a clear answer to this, do you set up your own appointment once you've received the package from the consulate, or do they set it up for you? what's the usual timeframe from when you get your package to the interview date?

sorry for all the questions, just trying to wrap my head around all of this...
