Prepared is as prepared does - Gun Owners are making the claim that people need to arm themselves about "criminal Katricians" - I wonder how much that has to do with an honest sense of civic duty, or the fact that they stand to make a big wad of sweaty money out of it by fuelling people's paranoia.

Yeah yeah... we get it. Capitalism bad, socialism good.

That's nice, but not what I said. In fact I don't believe I mentioned any branch of politics in this thread… I said I disagreed with the simplistic presentation of the issues.

"big wad of sweaty money" implies that the money made is 'other than honorable'. BTW the Gun Owners aren't standing to make dirty dirty money, the Gun Shops will.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

The "Gun Shop Owner" calling for people to arm themselves on his radio show has a bit of a conflict of interest does he not?

Any different than McDonalds saying 'buy more hamburgers'? If the Gun shop owner clearly represents himself I have no problem. If he hides behind 'Guns for a safer Texas' (not real) special interest group, I would have a problem with that.

Nothing about the article or this guy's opinion says anything practical about resolving the wider problem - hence as I said I object to the simplistic presentation of the issue.

In that sense this is not too dissimilar to the furore over asylum seekers in the UK.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

It all comes back to the gun ownership issue. People tend to us Europe or Australia as an example of the lower murder rates assosciated with restrictions on gun ownership. Neither Europe or Australia are attach to South America nor have such a problem with gangs..

Americans should carry two guns let alone one considering the growth of gangs, such as MS13, and crime in general..

The question is what is being done to combat the real problems?????

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

There is a rising crime that can be directly attributable to the influx of poverty stricken Katrina refugees As I said, poverty is inextricably linked to crime - more poor people, fewer police (or few police officers per % population) - that's simply stating the obvious.

Community leaders, like the one on the MSNBC report (not in the article) don't want to acknowledge that and instead sit back on stale politically correct assumptions.

The gun ownership issue is part of it - but it basically comes down to the debate is being defined both by people like this idiotic gun shop owner and by "community leaders". Neither side actually addresses the real problem - which is the long term planning for Katrina victims, and the overall strateg-ery for rebuilding New Orleans. They are angry with each other, when they should be putting pressure on local and federal officials. Same deal with asylum in the UK - blame the asylees / cry discrimination - when it’s the government that has created the situation.
