was anybody approved for their visa without an engagement ring? i just want to have a wedding ring when we get married. due to economic situtaions i cant afford an engagement ring.

If you cant afford it then dont worry about it. They didnt even asked us about our engagement ring. Good luck :thumbs:

Um, Yeah that's not something they'll ask for... if just a ring could be proof enough that two people were madly in love with each other then the system wouldn't work very well :P A ring tells them nothing.

Timeline:

02/04/2004 - A young Zinker arrives in Mexico to study Spanish and the dating game begins

2004--2005 - Many subsequent visits to Mx ensue to be with my love; engaged in March 2005!

04/??/2005 - I-129F is filed from within the US

06/09/2005 - Zinker moves to Mexico

09/??/2005 - I-129F is approved

10/15/2005 - Interview in Cd. Juarez and subsequently approved for a K1 Visa!..But visa is left in Juarez

10/17/2005 - Due to unexpected pregnancy and a job offer in Mx - we decide not to pursue the visa and it expires :(

01/04/2006 - Married in Mexico

10/09/2011 - Two children later and a comfortable life in Mexico... Preparing to file I-130 in December 2011. Stay Tuned!

The best thing for an engagement proof is an engagement party, if you can afford. as soon as my fiance told them that we had engagement party and showed them our pictures they didn't ask for anything else and didn't even look at our phone records and bunch of other things that was supposed to show our ongoing relationship. Anyways wish you best of luck.

Not necessarily at every consulate. It's great that it worked for you, but please take care in applying your experience globally.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I know its not necessary but it is very helpful. If I was someone applying for K1 visa and I could afford it then I would definitely do an engagement party. seeing pictures of a lot of people and families celebrating, shows a great proof of a real relationship. Its my advice or say opinion and I know that it helped a lot of people. My friends husband recently got his visa and they showed no proof of their phone calls emails or stuff like that but still got approved. They did engagement party.

Acknowledged with respect, but again, this might backfire or be used against people who interview at certain consulates. People should consider the future ramifications carefully, is the point.

No engagement ring or party, no wedding ring, didn't show any evidence of relationship at consulate, didn't take his last name and never a problem. Like T-Bone said, each consulate has their customs of what they like to see. Best for the OP to read the experiences of people going through Juarez, Mexico. In the menu bar you will find Embassy Reviews to read about a specific consulate.
