We are flying domestically. We have I-485 initial interview on 10/15. The flight is 10/28. She has AP.

Want to know what right names is for airline ticket purchase. See my signature for current status.

Names changed to protect identity:

Her passport (venezuela) says:

Raffaella Rossi Suarez

We got married, and her legal name now is:

Raffaella Rossi-Smith

Her EAD and all of her immigration docs show her name as:

Raffaella Rossi-Smith

My call is that we buy her ticket in her CURRENT name: Raffaella Rossi-Smith and bring with us to airport:

1. Her current Vzla passport

2. Her EAD card

3. Her SSN card

4. Cert Copy of Marriage Cert

5. I-797 forms showing her application for I-485

This sounds like overkill but it's just as easy to bring these docs as it is to leave them at home in the safe.

Any insights would be helpful. Thanks

For me, I would rather buy a ticket with matches to her name in her passport (less hassle for me as the staff in the airport might ask lots of questions and look for evidences as why her name in the ticket didn't match with her passport)..but I know people here in VJ might give u more information on what u need to do and follow as i don't have experience yet your situation..but i might early next year :bonk: ...But if you want to buy a ticket with her married name then u can do that too as I've read here in VJ that some did that and no hassle at all...just weigh which is which.. :)

General rule of thumb when flying is to match the name on the ticket to the passport. Internal domestic flights don't require use of the AP/GC and, if she was flying internationally, they would require the marriage certificate to match the maiden name in passport and on ticket to the married name on the AP/GC.

Hello, I was reading this thread.

I'm stuck here at home cause we are afraid that if I travel within US they will question me cause my K1 visa on my foreign passport was already expired.

Though I already have my EAD/AP and SSN card, we are still weighing things if I can already travel within US.

Question, If I travel within US what do I need to show at the airport, do I need to show them my passport (even with expired K1)

I don't know how this goes, I am really dying to go to my relatives outside Chicago and I'm just afraid they will not let me go at the airport.

Thanks for any advise you can give me.

Apparently she has same problem I had. My country also use 2 last names. My father and mother side are included so when I got married and apply for the green card I changed my name to my married name but I didn't update my passport because it would still show different (it's mandatory for my country to have 2 last names). I flew a couple of times. The answer it's easy: if you are traveling outside the US, her ticket would be exactly as the name in her passport. If your flight is domestic, her ticket would be exactly as the name in her id.

I called the airline they said have the ticket match the passport.

So I did that. If it doesn't work out I'll post the results.

Thanks.

Why not buy ticket with the name in the passport ? And idea to take SSN card with you is not the smartest one...

What's the problem with taking the SSN card?

Ticket should always match your passport.

Unless she has a US driver's license and then could use that to fly domestically and have her ticket match that.
