I'm in process of gathering documents required for CR-1 VISA application and have question regarding the police certificate. Here's my question (she was over the age of 16):

My Spouse now lives in Merrut, UP now but worked in Gurgoan from 2007 to 2011. This was her temporary address and her permanent address was in Chandigarh (her parent's house). I will be getting a police certificate from Merrut, UP as she has been living there for more than 6 months. Do I need to get another police report from Gurgoan or would the one from Merrut, UP will suffice? Does anyone has any experience in dealing with situation where their beneficiary lived in multiple addresses?

Also, Is passport clearance certificate and Police Clearance certificate same thing or different? If different, do I need both of these certificates?

Thanks!

I think the rule is you need to get it from all places where the person lived (as you will declare this one forms as well) for more then 6 months since the age of 16. If the person is not living for 6+ months on a given address PCC is not needed from that place. Other can give more specific details.

Passport office's police clearance certificate is different then local Police station's police clearance certificate. You need from both places.

I heard from others that completed the journey stating that the Passport Police Clearance is what Consulates in India are looking for from India. And the Passport offices are insisting on the local police clearance to issue their PCC.

Thus I submitted just my one local PCC, Passport PCC and one Foreign PCC and ignored the old local PCC (in the 15-16th year wife stayed at at a different city in India doing intermediate) and my DS-230 was accepted 5 days ago at NVC.

I submitted the Police Clearance Certificate from local authority (in Mumbai) along with my Wife's DS-230 application. Her NVC case was approved and I have also received the interview date for next month. However, the interview appointment letter indicated that, she needs to produce "Passport Police Certificate".

Does anyone have experience in getting this certificate from Mumbai Passport office ? What is the average time it takes to get this certificate ?

Just to shed some light, these things are also required for the K1 visa and here is a discussion that I was part of on the K1 Visa Forum.

I think the norm is that one needs a police clearance certificate first, once that is obtained, one can use it to obtain the passport clearance certificate.

Hope this helps.
