At Highbury, only a minority had no record. Many seemed to be career criminals. Most were teenagers or in their twenties, but a surprising number were older. Most interestingly of all, they were predominantly white, and many had jobs.

It's industrial scale shoplifting and vandalism. Alongside the chavs in hoodies, the police have apparently arrested a school teaching assistant, a graphic designer, an army recruit and some university students.

What I love about the "debate" (I use that word very loosely) here is that whilst someone like RJ or Duncan or Trompe or me who actually has first hand knowledge of life in the UK is belittled when speaking about what the riots are actually about by people who claim to have no interest in and great dislike for the country, were any of us to opine about Russia, Ukraine or Belarus, we would be told to shut up because we know only what we've read about those countries.

I haven't belittled a single poster or claimed a dislike for your country. I have claimed proximity doesn't = increased knowledge and that I couldn't care less what happens over there.

Never once have I taken offense to people saying things about Russia, Ukraine or Belarus. I couldn't care less about those countries either.

There's a lot of cobblestones in Britain, though.
