Not to mention the genes they all left behind after sticking around those parts of Europe. Lots of racist Europeans will have a hard time coming to terms with their Asian and to some extent, African blood.

So, can we agree that there are no nations in colonialist Europe that are unfamiliar with "foreign" cultures? The Dutch in Indonesia surely met Muslims there. The Danes occupied parts of India, the Carribean and Africa for a time. I doubt they shied away from foreign cultures there, and most likely spread some foreign seed there. So, now, their chickens are coming home to roost. Karma is a b!tch. Boo hoo.

Because I'm not writing an essay?

No they didn't come and leave. They splintered into factions, some of whom subsequently converted to Islam and set up shop on the ashes of the more advanced muslim nations that they had destroyed. That regime was far more destructive than any other imperial power - Christian or Muslim.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Well unfamiliar in the sense that the invading power doesn't usually care much about them..

The Mongol Invasions? I think your math is off by a few decades there.

I will post this again. Other than Russia and a part of Ukraine, they came and left. Read the link.

The influence of those invasions and the change the culture and the population did not come and go, Kip. It fundamentally changed the region.

I won't argue that, it did have an impact. Populations were decimated, cities were wiped off the map. But Europe had it easy compared to Russia. Russia was under the thumb/influence of the Mongol Empire for over 250 years. If it wasn't for the Duchy of Lithuania, Belarus and two thirds of Ukraine would have suffered the same fate.

Mongols, Huns, Vandals, Saracens, Moors, who else?

For me it's the argument that you get from some people that Islam is some barbaric religion that has held back progress in the middle-east. It's an argument which overlooks the fact that the middle-eastern countries in the middle ages (like Persia) were more advanced in almost every way than the nations of Europe. Since then - the region has experienced more or less continual conquest, from within and without.

Some people just hate to admit that we're all a lot more similar than not.

Well... they just like to hate, period.

That's called the easy way out. It's easy for the fact it doesn't involve any real thinking.

Three words to think about... "progress, evolution, and secular". Think on that one.

At all points in history someone will be ready to ####### on someone else. You just seem to be around to do it a little more frequently.

There you go again. You make post on this board but rarely back them up with any facts, points, etc... it's like you post because you feel compelled to post.

Read up on the Roman Catholic Church. Religion throughout the ages has been known to slow down progress...some more than others.

If your a scientist as you claim to be...I think that was the last thing you mentioned your field of work was, then you should know this.
