    • Propane

    • Natural Gas (I'd class with propane as it cooks the same, but I've been told otherwise, so oh well)

    • okay, wood oven (guess some of us are lucky aren't we?)

Got some lump coals glowing in the hibatchi, (yes, snicker) got the wild caught salmon filet on a plank, ready to go... Glass of white wine being poured, just waiting on the heat!

been using a BGE for a few years. easy to use and it works well. cooked lots of different things with it .... pizza, cake, bread, all kinds of different meat cuts, etc.

natural lump works well. there are differences in the lump brands so do your research and find something that works for you.

Sounds like a winner to me!!!!

What brand of lump do you like to use?

mmmmm, will have to try that one next time! I tried lump charcoal on the hibatchi for the first time yesterday. Kingsford was the brand, not sure where it's available, or if it's a good one, it was the only one available to me. I had been given the advice previously that briquettes are more uniform in size and you can get more uniform heat with them, but I was having a hard time figuring out what the big deal about charcoal was from them. I had been using my propane to get the even heat, so went that route on the switch to charcoal, sometimes adding in flavour chips for smoke even, making up little pockets with tinfoil.

Last night, using the lump charcoal, and its attendant variety of sizes, I came to the conclusion that in no way would I ever use briquettes again. I will have to strangle the person that gave me that very bad advice in the past, I've already bought an extra bag of the lump charcoal and given it to my mom to pass on to him.

So, I'm a convert. Lump charcoal is so much more like cooking on a campfire... which I LOVE.

Now I need to decide on what kind of bbq to get.... Weber, BGE, any other names worth mentioning and looking up?

I checked out that bbq site, it's heavy on the Weber grills, but I'm willing to hear differing opinions if you have one. Also, a review on the lump charcoals available in the US? Up here, I get weird looks buying any charcoal at the grocery store, was even asked once, "you still use charcoal?"

Bar B Q is properly smoked using wood charcoal or wood. Otherwise it is just cooking outside and makes no difference.

Used to do the fire pit, charcoal and propane (torch as well as grill) but it's been a looong time. BGE looks really fascinating.

I washed my hands, changed out of that Don Cherry jacket liked you asked, now can I have a smore? Please!

I won't laugh, would love to hear them actually! I'm a Leafs fan too! Kinda lost my appetite for 'em after the strike, but still cheer for them! Lol, I've been known to shout "Do me Domie" from Maple Leafs Gardens along with some girlfriends in the past after a few beers!

Why don't you start a thread in the Canada section about it? I promise to body check anyone that puts your reasons down... Gotta drink another beer first!
