NVC verbally told me they sent our approved petition to GUZ on June 5th (at first they told me May 19th). Last night I got an email response from from GUZ IV saying that they sent packet 3 at the beginning of June but it was returned at the end of June because the address was invalid. I requested the address change when the petition was at NVC after my Fiancées apartment building burned down. Anyhow the point of my post is if your beneficiary's address changes before your petition reaches the embassy be sure they've got it right or you'll waste a month like we just did.

On another note: If they sent P3 at the beginning of June that means it must have gone by SAFEFILE. It seems that a good number of petitions going to GUZ are going electronically.

If you were checking in with DoS Hotline for casefile status,

you would have gleaned the 'P3 sent' timetick.

Once you've heard that, can use the GUZ P3 shortcut, at http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/GUZ_P3_Shortcut

and be adamant with the address change when submitting the packet 3 documents back, including a cover letter about it.

Please review http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/264972-shortcuts-when-checking-for-updates-from-the-nvc-and-dos/

Dodi's posted who to call, and how; further down, I've posted what you can get, and when. Timeticks are important to know, to cover silly sh|te exactly like this. (No, the building burning down wasn't silly - the loss of address change is what's silly)

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

DoS Hotline humans didn't give me that timetick. They told me on June 23rd that the petition shipped to Guangzhou on June 7th (sorry that was wrong in my original post). This morning they told me that P3 was sent on June 7th. It's possible that I misunderstood them on the 23rd.

I confirmed the address change with the friendly human this morning and will make sure that we include a very conspicuous and adamant change notification with her P3 info.

I have another question...Looking at OF-169 I read that to say that she does not need to send the I-134 prior to the interview, am I correct?

That's right Chris, the I-134 is turned in on the document intake day along with your tax transcript etc and Packet 4 forms.

Darnell,

First of all, I appreciate all the help you and others have given to us newbies. I'd like to suggest updating some of the information to benefit future newbies.

For instance, we don't have to go through all the menus in the DOS phone call to get to an operator as outlined in Dodi's post. We can press '1' for main menu, and then '0' to speak to an operator. We still have to wait for the human to answer, but there is no need to remember all the other steps between pressing '1' and '0'.

Chris' experience here is a good illustration of "thinking outside the box". This may be a rare incidence, but it shows that DOS didn't tell him what he needed to know, or perhaps he didn't call often enough. His email to Guangzhou uncovered the miscommunication between DOS and the consulate. Either Chris did not call often enough to know that Guangzhou sent out his P3, or Guangzhou did not update DOS with that information.

I'm glad it all worked out good for Chris.

Once again, I want to thank you (Darnell) and this forum for providing valuable information. At the same time, I would encourage people to email Guangzhou consulate if DOS can't give them anymore information. I learned from other VJ members that Guangzhou consulate is very good at replying emails. We may from time to time get some unmotivated staff there, but from my own experience and others, I'd say, they do a good job. :)

Thanks Bobby! Have I ever told you that you're my hero?

:D Chris, you are too kind :)

I'm just your fellow classmate here at VJ :)

Echoing what Bobby has said I would like to thank Darnell as well. While Jane has been traveling (and waiting) she has been off VJ for sometime. Whenever we have a procedural discussion about her visa she always says "have you asked Darnell?" or "What does Darnell think?" Xie xie ni shifu

I too am very happy with the quick response from GUZ. As for the DOS human I spoke with this morning she was helpful but; for lack of a better word, sloppy. She told me P3 was sent July 7, when I asked her to confirm she said "oh no, June 7th". She then asked "has she not received it?". I told her no that she hadn't. As I walked her through the timeline she suddenly realized that all the correct information was there in front of her including my email to GUZ IV. For some reason they decided to send P3 to me here in the US  To me it would have made more sense to send me an email or a phone call and ask for the correct address but...

I absolutely agree with bobbyA that an email to Guangzhou may be just the ticket to get good scoop.
