Yes we share although I do the bulk of the posting. If it's short and to the point it's him and he signs it Jock. Maybe I should sign it Genee hehehe

With Vonage you also get a UK number to give family members to call I take it? The website is so vague. Anyone know of or ever use Magic Jack? Right now I have Skype to Go but his family cant call him on it as it's linked to my USA number.

Tell me about it, I pay $130 per month with Sprint. Cell phone packages are expensive here.

$130 for a cell line? You are getting ripped off. It should be around $40/mo, unless you have data plans and text plans, etc. A lot of uneeded #######.

I'm only 35 (not an old man), and I have a basic flip phone. Everybody thinks I'm nuts. or maybe that I'm behind the times.

I have 3 computers at home and 1 at work. I don't need one on my cell phone.

Magicjack is great. Buy a MJ in the US, register it with a US number, and send it to the UK. Have your family plug it into the computer and you are able to call each other for FREE ($20 annual fee, $40 first year).

The internet connection has to be decent (at least 1.5mbps) to get good quality voice.

I have been using it with my wife's family in Costa Rica for over a year now. No issues. I also have another one I use for traveling abroad. I pop it into my laptop, connect a phone to it, and I call back to the US for free.

My husband says if it's a UK phone, then it's GSM. The US providers that he can use are AT&T or T-Mobile. A sim card from them can be used in his UK version of Droid.

Not all GSMs are equal - AT&T use the same frequencies for 3G as the UK providers, T-Mobile USA does not. So, unless the phone you're bringing with you has a 1700Mhz band (instead of or as well as the UK-norm 1900Mhz and 2100Mhz), then you wouldn't get 3G on T-Mobile. This is the problem that a lot of USCs get after jailbreaking their iPhones - they can then use them on T-Mobile USA, but the data speed is only EDGE (or 2.5G).

I get it. Wasn't thinking about data plans and 3G, 4G etc. Kinda with EricPris on that and don't need to spend the extra $30 (plus assorted taxes) to post to facebook from my car. Verizon even offered me a free iPhone. I guess we're cheap.

It's a pain in the butt having to use Vonage. Even though the $35 per month is not too bad, I don't want the package that has 35 or country's that you can call free. All I call is the UK, I'm seriously thinking of using either magic-jack or Skype to phone the UK but as I haven't really really used either of the 2, I'm still pondering my thoughts on which 1 to go for.

By the way, I had a look on Skype's websites, I'm surprised they don't have a customer service number.

Yeah, good luck getting hold of Skype customer service!!

I've used Skype for the last year and a half and find it pretty good. As long as you have a decent internet connection, you should be fine. They do have bad days occasionally, but most of the time the service is pretty solid. Being free, it's worth trying before you go paying for another service I would say.

Well I have AT&T and they keep blabbering on that he cannot use his Droid X with them, so he is going to simply sell the droid, if in fact he cant use it, then he will get another from AT&T. He is confident he can find another that he likes.

He is so good at compromising. :luv:

Vonage World plan that I use is $25.99 for 60 countries (better price than you thought). It's our house phone and I found it cheaper than ATT landline with unlimited long distance with all the extra features ($40) that still wouldn't give me unlimited calls to the UK. I haven't found it a pain in the butt. It uses any phone equipment. Voice claity is always good. The computer doesn't need to be on. Every phone jack in our house wiring is Vonage. (I don't know how Nick rigged that up)

Ye I seen that price on the their website and I had a wee moan at them, they said the price is for new customers only and not existing one's. I might just end up cancelling them as we hardly every use the house phone as we use our cell phone a lot more. I only even signed up to Vonage to call the bairns back home.
