Ok, silly question, but I'm not sure what the NOA1 is! :blush: The date the USCIS received our petition and sent us a message on that effect a little later?

We received an e-mail&txt message on June 29th that our petition was received and it contained a receipt number. When I checked on their website using that number it said the following:

"On June 24, 2011, we received this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E), and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or contact our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283."

Is this just a receipt confirmation? Or if it is indeed the NOA1, will June 24 be the date on the hard copy, even though we received the notification on the 29th?

10/22/2014 Early Biometrics Walk-in - Cleveland, OH - weird experience with the clerk there - told me I can go ahead and get my biometrics taken early, but it might be too early and it might not go through??? If it might be a problem, then why let me do it at all?

02/10/2015 New Biometrics letter received, Biometrics scheduled for 03/09/15- I guess that clerk was right??

03/09/2015 Second biometrics

..waiting..

5/15/2015 Put in a service request online - outside of processing time

5/18/2015 Approved!

You'll get a letter which is the NOA1, but what you got what a text message saying it's on its way basically. Wait until you see what date is printed on the letter you get. You'll get it soon! Congratulations on getting it started!

Thanks for your quick reply.

I thought the same thing, I even updated my timeline with it, but then I was reading the VJ guides and on the Flowchart it says

"1st Notice of Action (NOA)

U.S. Petitioner Receives first Notice of Action (NOA) acknowledging K-1 petition has been opened

*Typical wait time is 2-3 weeks after the Service Center receives the I-129F."

So I got confused :)

The txt message you recieved is considered your NOA1 you will get had copy in the mail as well. Good luck on your journey!!!! :thumbs:

You will receive your Receipt Notice in the mail. The terms "NOA1", "NOA2" have no official meaning - they were invented on VisaJourney.

Your second notice from USCIS will either be an RFE or an Approval Notice.

I had the same question, I'm glad you asked!!! :thumbs:

We also got an email on the 29th of June so I assumed that was our NOA1 date, but I guess I'll have to wait until we receive the hardcopy to really know. I didn't dare log on to the USCIS webpage since they wrote in the email that "We suggest you wait until you have received your Form I-797 before checking My Case Status". But I really want to look! :innocent:

January 19th 2012: Interview (209 days) Approved!

Our AOS/EAD/AP timeline:

May 4th 2012: Sent off AOS/EAD/AP package

May 8th 2012: NOA1 for all three

June 5th 2012: Biometrics appointment

July 20th 2012: EAD/AP approved (77 days)

August 8th 2012: AOS interview: Approved! (96 days)

August 16th 2012: Green card in hand!

To Kristina/David: there's no problem on checking your online status if you have your receipt number, what they probably mean by saying that is it might not be updated at all yet and might say "case cannot be found". Mine was updated, it had the text I posted in my earlier message; and then it was touched again on the 30th :) It is in "Initial review" now. And I have a feeling checking that website is going to be highly addictive :)

Also, since our petitions were received at the same time they're probably in the same box now, waiting to get looked at!

Hi pumpkinseed! I believe your NOA1 is the date that you receive your receipt number (June, 29) The information of the website with the date June 24, is only telling you the day USCIS received your application and YES is just a receipt confirmation, not the day they take as NOA1. So, your NOA1 hardcopy must stated June 29 as your date. I hope this helps!

I am actually not very concerned about the date of the NOA1 that much, I just wanted to make sure we did get it :) I will wait and see what the hard copy says, but really a couple of days is not a big deal.
