Hey there,

I hope someone who has gotten their police certificate from Russia can help me. I got my police certificate from Malaysia which is my country of origin and my current residence, but i did spend almost 7 years studying in Russia. Is a police certificate from Russia absolutely necessary? If yes, How do i get one?

I'm panicking because i overlooked this and my interview might be in a month from now.

Any information will be a huge help...especially from Russian VJ-ers.

Police and Prison Records

Available. Russian law (MVD Order no. 965, dated November 1, 2001) mandates that the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) provide police certificates both to Russian citizens and to foreigners who have lived or are living in Russia. The law states that in Russia, MVD offices must provide the certificate within 30 days. Those residing outside of Russia, both Russian citizens and non-citizens, may either delegate a Power-of-Attorney to apply for the certificate on their behalf in Russia, or apply directly to the Russian Consulate. Police certificates should note all names that the person has used in Russia, and should note the MVD branches in all locations that were queried.

YMMV

Thanks for the info. So I could either get someone in Russia to apply for me or I could apply through the Russian consulate in Malaysia? Which way would be faster??

PS: Is there any website with instructions on how to apply, what documents they need?

When I called to the MVD Office (listed in the Moscow Embassy website) , they told me that I could sign a limited power of attorney document and someone else coudl get this certtifate from the MVD. If you spent 7 years in Russia, you must know how to expedite the "waiting time"... Good luck

 My suggestion was going to be the Russian consulate and this looks to be one of the correct ways to request it. I would contact the consulate first and they can tell you approximately how long it will take. If it is too long then you have the limited power of attorney route also. Good Luck
