How late can my fiancee wait to come to the US after receiving K1 visa

My fiancee has received her K1 visa for about one week. We planned to have her come to the US by the end of July. But the ticket (even for one-way) is very expensive for July and August. The price goes down dramatically in September. I would like to know how late she can wait to come to the US. I heard someone saying if she waits for too long (say two to three months) to come to the US, at the POE, the officer may question her for the delay and may even deny her entry. Is that true?

The visa is valid for 6 months from the date of issue. However, check the expiration date; sometimes the validity is less if the medical exam validity expires sooner than 6 months.

It is true that CBP determines entry but that other thing you heard, sounds like a bunch of BS to me.

She should look at her visa, it will have an expiration date on it- usually 6 months. She will have no trouble entering before the expiration date. Many people leave it a few months, as it takes a while to wind up a life and move everything to a different continent. We took just over 3 months as we had to find a new home for our elderly cats.

We got our K1 in Oct 09 and my wife came here Feb 2010.

There were no problems at POE.

You don't need to know the expiration date of the medical exam. That's just somebody's confusion. What counts is the expiration date of the visa. K1 visas issued at some stations like Manila, will have an expiration date six months from the date of the medical instead of six months from the date of visa issue. Either way, it's the visa expiration date that matters.

Waiting until September is no problem but you might find that very late August will have good fares.

My laopo will be coming over about 3 months after she received her visa. I don't anticipate any problems at the POE because of this. If the CBP was giving someone problems for waiting "too long" but it was still less than the expiration date than the CBP officer either saw some other problem that wasn't enough to deny entry and they were fishing, or they were having a bad day and taking it out on the person.

it is 6 months from the date of issue on the visa and 90 days to marry upon arrival to the us
