If you recall that other thread, I mentioned that there was one word, that IMO, triggered the thread ban. IMO, the addition of that one word, made it a baiting thread.

There have been complaints about the misogyny and bigotry on this site for ages and the same response from VJ moderators and admins, that there is work going on behind the scenes. IT seems that the moderators and admins are more concerned with people baiting and trolling than they are with quashing bigotry.

I suppose you could argue if you get rid the the bait, the bears will go away (or at least thats probably the philosophy).

One thing I often read is that the moderators have to make a lot of judgement calls. That is a sign that the rules they are enforcing lack clarity. A good set of rules will warrant less discretion, creating a well oiled system that would help moderators out. In many ways I feel very sorry that they have to enforce something as vague as the rambling at the bottom of the page.

I really think it would be wise to forget about enforcing the legal TOS, leave that as the clause to getting the owner out of court, and instead create a clearer mod--centric version of the rules for each forum. Each section could have its own set pinned at the top. Something tells me an ad-hoc version already exists in the moderator section but isn't visible to the rest of us. I think it would also be good if the minus was returned but kept hidden from view for the upper forum. Perhaps when a post hits a certain number it gets automatically reported and is then vetted for misinformation.
