I need help. My husband got approved last week, he went and picked up his visa. They didn't tell him not to open the packet that supposed to stay close until he gets here. Well, he opened it thinking it was just returned documents. I know you'll say it's written on it. THAT'S WHAT I SAID TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I'm mad and sad and don't know what to do right now. I don't know if they'll cancel his visa or make us go through th whole thnig again, or just make him go back so they can reseal it. of course tomorrow is Memorial Day and the consulate will be closed.I can't wait till then. anyone who was in the same situation and can tell me what will happen? thanks!

Usually you have to take it back to the consulate and they will reseal it.

They wont' cancel his visa but they won't let him enter the US with the opened packet, he'll have to go back to the consulate and have it resealed.

Good luck

Under "The Most Frequent A sked Questions" for the American Consulate in Turkey, it said you just need to bring it back to get resealed, but it doesn't say how long this process takes. I'm sure that it's different for each country.

I know someone that also opened the packet, she was freaking out didn't know what to do. Somehow she managed to reseal it and she had no problems at POE. But that was quite a risky move though...I think you should go back to the consulate, hopefully they don't take to long to fix this.

Good luck

Yes,we don't want to take any chances. I just hope that he can hold of someone tomorrow, you know how hard that could be. I don't know if he can just take it himself tomorrow without calling them first.

Well, unlike any other American Consulate in the world the one in Morocco won't reseal your packet. We talked to them four times and the last time I was told not to call back again. they said that he needs to reseal it himself or put scotch tape over it. I called customs and immigration here and explained to them that the consulate is refusinf to reseal it. The officer told me that there's nothing we can do if they won't take the packet, and to try to reseal it ourself since it was just an accident. So I guess we'll do that and take our chances.

Thank you everyone, at this point there is nothing we can do except wait for that day to find out. It just sucks that we went through all that and now I have to go to the airport not even knowing if I'll get to bring him home and start our life together, or not even see him if he gets sent back.

I would be sure you have him prepared for ANY question they might ask. This open package really can enhance this. Have him be prepared for a rude POE officer.

Can you or did you contact them by email about this ? If they respond in email that they won't reseal a package he could carry the email as proof he tried.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

That's a good idea I'll try to get a respond out of them. They might not do so since they specifically told not to bother them again. But I also was going to write a letter and scan it so he can bring it with him about how many times we caled what we were told, and that I already contacted an immigration officer at the airport where he'll be landing and he said he should fine too, I got the officer's name so I can state it in the letter. So maybe that could help if they notice that's it has been open. My husband said that he can can reseal it and it sticks back without looking like it has been open at some point it's just not as sticky as it was before. So we'll see. I can't thank you enough Visajourney members for your support through this. If I hear anything new I'll post it.
