Had to choose between fast 5 and Bridesmaids last night. Fast Five

I always try to keep and open mind and I love car movies, I try to remember its just a movie and try to have fun with it...

Graphics were decent, better then Thor....

But pulling huge safe through the city.....

The movie had so much potential. Even if its the same story over and over.

Still, I think the best "realistic" (notice its in quotes) car action Movies are

Series

I love the Transporter movies.. I wish they would make more... my husband loves the Crank movies with the same actor...

the last movie I saw was Hangover 2. it as ok but not as good as the first one and I thought Due Date was funnier then Hangover 2..

"The Expendables"

Naturally Sly was the Alpha dog in this one, but I didn't figure on Jason Statham as his sidekick.

This pleased me very much as I have been a fan of Jason's for a long time, especially in his

roles in the Guy Ritchie flicks "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," "Revolver" and "Snatch."

This movie was punch, kick blast, bomb, yell, get dirty, etc. but naturally all of this was in the name of a higher good.

It's definitely not Shakespeare but if you're in the mood for action it delivers.

Although Mickey Rourke was not in the thick of the action for the most part, he played a solid role.

Arnold was strictly comic relief: "I think he wants to be president...yada yada yada yada"

I thought Expendables was a pretty decent action movie.. I think I read somewhere that they might be making a sequel..

I recently saw Little Fockers. I love Ben Stiller. He's such a sweetheart. I think I liked Meet the Parents and Meet The Fockers better.

yeah the first 2 movies were way better the the Little Fockers. I didn't really laugh much during the movie...

Absolutely breathtaking.

Made me think of the mistakes I made with my kids

(very different from those in the film but with similar

results) and the mistakes my kids made with me.

In B/W, absolutely one of the best (French) films I

have seen, a whole new take on "It's A Wonderful Life"

theme with many different twists.

A good (maybe not great) film, for the inter-personal relationships

rather than the sci-fi aspect. Well worth a look.

"From Russia With Love" - Sean Connery

One of my favorites, SC always pleases.

I get them from the NY Public Library and the Westchester library system,

so you can't beat the price (late fees from time to time).

My wife often works at night and I don't give a ###### for commercial TV,

so I do research on what actors & directors I would like to see and

order their stuff from the library online.

For example, I saw Javier Bardem in "Vicki Christina Barcelona"

and that led me to get other films (all Spanish language) that he

appeared in.

As intimated in my previous post, critical reception of 'Still Walking' nudged me in the direction of Ozu's classic 'Tokyo Story', which I watched yesterday. It was indeed quite wonderful, fully deserving of all the accolades and plaudits, and much of what I said about 'Still Walking' applies - acutely observed, conveying of simmering emotion within the vérité constraints of inexorably polite discourse, and in its hints of tacit, personal tragedy, a moving humanistic picture.

Stylistically it is also an excellent example of early Japanese cinema traditions - notably the "face on" photography employed during conversation, a thoroughly apposite tack for such tersely drawn character interaction and drama.

No but it is at the top of my Bardem list and sometimes I can pre-reserve

movies that the library intends to get but doesn't physically have.

I think it's on one of my online "lists" - I can only see so many movies at once.

My erudite fiancee also recommended 'Yumurta', a recent Iranian film of apparently much the same vein as 'Tokyo Story'/'Still Walking', which I've managed to get a hold of. Hoping to watch it tonight or tomorrow.

Hm, you wouldn't be the first - I'll admit I'm sceptical.

Iñárritu is a tricky one - I enjoyed '21 Grams' but was warned vehemently off 'Babel' and have thus steered clear. 'Biutiful' doesn't seem to have been received quite so badly, but the consensus is assuredly mixed.

Yet to see 'Amores Perros', incidentally - supposedly his best.

Babel was okay - Biutiful was so dull and depressing. None of his films are as good as Amores Perros

For more Javier Bardem movies, I'd go with Almodovar

A disquisition on enterprise and ambition to rival Welles' 'Kane' and Herzog's 'Aguirre', and shone through a quintessentially American lens: the inexorable thrall of capitalism tussling with the opiate of organised religion. It's also absolutely wonderful cinema - from Elswit's cinematography to Greenwood's score, an immersive aesthetic triumph.

'There Will Be Blood' (Anderson, 2007)

It's also absolutely wonderful cinema - from Elswit's cinematography to Greenwood's score, an absolutely immersive aesthetic triumph.

I liked the movie too...But from what I remember the end was a little bizarre.

What did you find bizarre about it? I thought it was a reasonable culmination of the film's overarching ideas and themes, and can perhaps even be directly related to works like 'Citizen Kane' and 'Aguirre', in the isolation, mental degradation, etc of its main character.
