Lying is called misrepresentation, and can cause you to get your visa denied with no chance for appeal. Don't listen to your friends who suggest you lie. In the US, lying gets you in trouble, and you are rewarded for telling the truth. Tell the truth.

Always tell the truth.

Are you filing for a tourist visa? If so, they may not even ask. If you are filing for a K1 (fiance) visa, they will ask, and may check with your fiance, so always tell the truth.

Answer accurately and truthfully, any lie will grant you a denial with a lifetime bar from entering the US for misrepresentation. These guys are very serious when it comes to dishonest immigrants.

Don't ever play smart with the CO, they look for eye contact, body language, the way you stand, tone of your voice, etc...

I recommend saying the truth. Putting aside all the ethical prospective, if you lie it is SO easy to get lost and confused and once you get caught there is no way back. I don't see a problem with getting introduced by a friend.

In addition, keep in mind that your friends may not do it in your best interests. For example, my fiancee lost all her friends when we were applying for visa. I suspect this is the case....

Tell the truth. This somebody, I believe, was a total stranger? Even if it was your friend or cousin, never let them talk you into lying.

Always tell the truth! As best I have researched, I can tell you there is no policy stating that you are not allowed to have met someone through means of family members, friends, or work colleges, etc. Most likely, the USCIS/CO are looking for people that introduce a great many of their friends to US citizens! This could be conceived as an illegal gross abuse of the system. As long as your connection to your fiancé is above board, and there was no intent just to get you to the states, then all should be fine. There may be a chance that the USCIS will conduct some form of investigation of the person or persons that introduced you. However, as long as this was a legitimate introduction, all should go smoothly. It would shock me if someone showed me a policy that you could not meet people through family members, friends, etc. Furthermore, as long as the situation is legit, I would speculate that they would rather see a traditional introduction versus an on-line dating service. Although, having said this, it is my understanding that the on-line dating platform has now become a valid and ethical way of meeting your future spouse.
