What is the likely hood that she will get an interview in this situation.

Her chances of getting an interview are quite good. I say that because her number would have had an interview in 12 of the past 15 years. If she does get an interview, because her number is so high, it will probably be in September 2011, which means she should get an interview notification around August 2011.

The visa issuance ends Sept 2011 or when the quotas have been reached. If there is no word shortly then the limit was reached before her number. Hopefully she also applied for the 2012 lottery.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

In recent years, the limit was seldom reached. Edited by Superkruz

This is for May 2011 - don't think your friend can get it as it seems to jump only couple of thousand numbers between each month and there are only 4 more months left.

This is not correct at all. In fact her chances are better than it has ever been. The 49300 cut-off for June is the highest June cut-off since 1995.

You are right that the numbers only go up by a few thousand each month, till it reaches approximately 60 000 in August. Then, in September, all numbers often become current (this happened in 12 of the past 15 years), which means the cut-off jumps from 60 000 to 100 000 in one month. You can have a look at the attached file to see the cut-off numbers of the past, and compare it to the numbers of this year.

The DV issues 50000 visas a year. So numbers over 50000 are being consumed by those numbers where the lower winner fails to revieve a visa. They draw 100000 numbers ( twice the number ) to help make sure that they have enough people in line. When they hit 50000 visas issued they shut the doors and everyone else is closed ( hence all numbers to 100000 are suddenly done. ) So a number of 89000 or more will only get a visa if 39000 people before them don't qualify for a visa.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

You would be suprised at the number of people that don't qualify that enter , pay the visa fee and get told they don't get a visa. While at the conulate in Lagos Nigeria you see 3-4 a day.

I rally didnt know that many people would not get qualified for the visa, I mean why they would not. Are they lying on the application, about education, criminal background?

One of Josephs visits to Lagos there was a familiy of 4 that had gone to their DV interview . The father was a shop owner and had borrowed the money to pay for the 4, which was several times their yearly income. The man was in such shock that he was having trouble walking, not only where his dreams dashed but he was in debt and had no way to pay these people back. While I was waiting for Joseph a young man that was a notary/accountant came from his failed DV interview and sat on the ground near me in tears that his education had been rejected.
