OK heres the story: My sister went to SM to checked my moms plane ticket,she met a woman there who is a green card holder and she is a lawyer at Ateneo. She told my sister that when my mom arrive in the United States my mom needs to apply the SSN and the government will give her 600 dollars. I know it sounds ridicolous but thats what the woman told them and they believe her. In the first place when my mom arrive here the Green Card and SSN will be mail it to you right. So how can that be true?

I'm the wife of an American Soldier;

I'm the hope that lives within him after storm clouded days.

The freedom from war that gives wings to his heart,

May they reach across the miles and bind our hearts together

against all that we must face in this world.

The usa streets are paved with gold and when you land they give everyone free money! haha Joking! , Of course not, why would they give you money for coming into the country? You might have to pay $600+ dollars to become a citizen for filing fees and etc

I screwed up my first tax return and got the $400 "Making Work Pay" tax credit by mistake. The instructions weren't all that clear that you can't use excluded foreign income for that calculation.

Oops. :blush:

Turns out you can't do that. :)

So no, the government doesn't give you $600. They don't even give you $400. :)

That could have been true before the Clinton administration changed the welfare laws of the land. Before 1996, Supplementary Security Income ("SSI") of approximately $600 was available to low income people over 65 who had an SSN, even if they just got off a slow boat from the PI.

Now, only US citizens and certain legal permanent residents can avail of these welfare benefits. Your momma will get hers after taking the oath of citizenship and pledge her allegiance to the flag of the U.S. of A.

The South shall rise again!
