Hi, all.

So-- I have a few questions relating to the money forms. I'm filing for a K1: Fiance visa.

I am still trying to find a co-sponsor for us, for financial reasons. My parents are afraid of being sued. Is there anywhere that it is written out in plain English exactly what the risk is for a co-sponsor? At what levels is it binding/non-binding?

Also, I am going to try to get all the money documentation as soon as possible. Are faxed copies okay? Is there a list of exactly WHAT I need (pay stubs? Tax returns?) somewhere? I am living in Morocco now, and my paperwork is in the States.

If this isn't the right place, sorry.

Thanks!

At the K1 level, the I 134 is non binding. Simply because it is a non immigrant visa being applied for. The I 864 for AOS is a binding document, however. The best way of explaining it to them is to tell them that if he ever goes on welfare, that they would have to pay the govt back. It's not that easy to get welfare, and a social services office would likely deny a non citizen anyway. This is what I told my mom.

When my mother sent the documentation for the affidavit of support, she sent copies of a letter from her employer, last 6 months bank statements, and her tax statements for the past 3 years. All they kept was the last year's tax statement. If it's a good quality fax, it might work, but I'd have someone mail originals just in case. Oh, I also called and had my 3 years tax statements sent to my mom for her to send too. I was living in Morocco at the time as well, and tax statements was all I had. Again, they only took the most recent year's statement.

Hope this helps.

I'm not clear on what the I-134 is, but here is a good description the obligations of a sponsor/co-sponsor:
