What was your choice of transportation during your visit in VN? I'm going back in a month with a couple of friends and I'm thinking about just hiring a personal driver for the duration of the month. Last time I came back I drove once and that wasn't fun at all, so I ended up taking my fiance around on her dinky 125CC moped, but now that I have friends coming back to me, I have to come up with a safer way of getting around.

It all depends on where I was going at any given time.. I keep a car service # for runs outside the city and taxis are always available for short runs... I have a taxi drivers number for those short ones as well but he is not always available.. but when I am in the city Thuy says I walk way too much but I love taking my time and walking and seeing everything around me when I am in the city.

We took taxis. They're everywhere in any reasonable size city, and usually not more than a 15 or 20 minute wait if you're out in the country. If you've got a day full of activities planned then hire a taxi for the day. The prices are comparable to what you'd pay to rent a car in the US, but you get the driver as well. Just remember that when you stop to eat you should feed the driver, as well.

I rode on Phuong's Honda one day. I'm glad I got to experience it, but it's not something I'd ever want to do again.

I'm an die-hard biker (I owe a 1000cc super sport bike) so naturally I prefer being on two wheels. I've taken my fiancee on 2+ hrs rides from her hometown into Saigon and I find it an enticing challenge to navigate through the local traffic. I got pulled over once simply b/c my attire stood out like a sore thumb among thousands of other riders at that moment. If I was coming back by myself I would def prefer to be on two wheels again, but I'm coming back with a few other people so I most likely I'll go with the taxi route.

Don't ever hiring a driver drive you around SG or some where far like Dalat or Nha Trang. I have a BAD experimented first time I went back to VN with my Mom. The driver will drive you around around, and will ask you for extra money for the GAS, and Time. Also, if you are hiring if to drive you to Dalat. You have to pay for the Hotel, foods, and etc for him.

If you and your friends decide to go Dalat or Nha Trang. Just go to De Tham or Pham Ngu Lau District 1 paying for 100,000 dong or more for all the bus service like Phuong Nha Trang, Sing Cafe, and etc.

It's much better with all the traveller from other country. AC is always ON. and more SAFE.

There's an airport about 20 minutes away from Da Lat, in the valley below the mountain. The flight from HCMC is less than 30 minutes. You can catch a local taxi from the Da Lat airport to the city. You don't have to feed the driver or pay for his hotel room. Why spend all day in a bus or taxi?

My wife has someone in the family that has big van that carried like 15 of us around and it cost us like 45 dollars for a full day. It also cost us no extra for fuel and I even thought that was unfair but as fuel is very expensive there. We fed him but the family carries all food with us when we go anywhere as I am not allowed to eat anything except what they cook for me. (Ice cream excepted) It never amazed me that any trip to anywhere and it was easy to find enough people to fill that van.
