NSW Police Check - Which Form?

Hello,

Further to my previous question, another matter has come up:

Do any Australian (NSW) K-1 filers know for certain which form is required when applying for the Police check prior to the interview?

The Canberra Embassy website says the P.800 application form should be used to apply. Other websites, including NSW Police state that P.799 application form should be used.

I downloaded both forms and they appear to be identical, so the difference must be in the processing.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Moving to regional...

If you reside in New South Wales

Make an appointment, and then appear in person to be fingerprinted at your local police station. You must pay the fee of AUD175 (subject to change, please check the current fee with the police) and complete an application form, which the police will forward to:

NSW Police Department, Criminal Records Section, Level B3 NSW Police Headquarters, 1 Charles St, Parramatta, NSW 2150. Tel: (02) 8835-7888.

Please find further details on the New South Wales Police website.

Great minds think alike lol!! I was just looking into this myself (even though the need for it seems a long way off at the moment!)

My feeling would be go with the P800 since this is what the embassy is saying is required. Maybe take a copy of that page from the embassy website in case the police question why you are using that form and not the P799.

This is just my feeling. If anyone has a more definitive answer I'd love to hear it also!

P.S - Good luck!

You don't need to download any form you just ring your local police station and they have the forms there and you fill it in. They will then send it off to Parramatta if you are in Sydney and the 4 weeks time you will receive it. I had them send it back to me and then sent it off with my packet for interview . Don't get it sent to Sydney consulate as it can get lost in the mail room.

Thanks for the advice! I was wondering how I was going to get it to the interview, as I know the Police normally send the certificate direct to the consulate. The other option was to obtain it through FOI. I assume it will need to be kept sealed.

No not at all it does not need to be sealed. You need to open it and then when you get packet 3 requesting all your docs you put it in with those. They have it there when you go for interview.

The police that he went to did not give him the option of getting a copy. They said it could only go to the Consulate. I wonder if that's going to be a problem. :(

Hey

by this website http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_4881.html?cid=3504 it says nsw and qld have to get it forwarded direct to the consulate... which confuses me because when i was in at the police station the form said it could be sent to me, then again it was only $42.60 or something and never said anything about fingerprints... so yeh its abit confusing because i would like to get mine done early but im not sure if i can.. i cant get them done now if they have to be sent to the consulate because i havent been approved yet.. expecting something in the next 2 weeks tho.. im in qld

I've just been through this.

In NSW you need to get the P.800 form (not P.799) which can be downloaded online. It's the full disclosure form including fingerprints. It cost $175.

It would be expediant to get it early because it takes 10 - 15 days to process and send out. This delay caused me to delay sending the packet by more than a week. The timespan between receiving and sending Pkt 3 for me was 19 days!

You should request that it gets sent out to yourself as the Pkt 3 instructions say you need it. Whether this means to be sent back in the packet or sent direct to the Consulate I'm not sure. It probably doesn't matter.

Hope this helps.
