Mom diagnosed as terminal

My mom was recently diagnosed with a terminal illness and I'm afraid she may not be able to make it to our wedding if we waited until July. (July is the expected month my love should arrive in the US)

Do you think this would qualify as a valid reason to file an expedite?

NOA1: November 1

First, let me say that I am so sorry to hear of your mother's condition.

I have heard of at least one person here on VJ who had a mother with such a condition and they were able to get an expedite on those grounds. I noticed their story when I saw them getting an early approval at some point in the past few weeks.

Make sure you have the medical documentation to back up the situation.

Best of luck to you and yours.

Thanks for the quick reply. My mom told me this morning she had documentation she could send me and she wants more than anything to go to the wedding.

I'll let you know.

I'm really sorry for everything you're going through right now. If I were in your situation I would certainly try to expedite - as Twocats said, someone else in the same situation was successful with their expedite request.

I wish you all the best and hope that you can get an expedite so your mom can attend your wedding. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your mother. I hope she can attend your wedding!

Best of luck with your expedite request. I think it is a valid reason for one. If anything, it doesnt hurt to try!

Just got off the phone with USCIS. I even escalated to level 2 as many have suggested. From what I understand, an expedite request was submitted and I will be contacted by an advisor within 5 business days. From that conversation, they will give me a fax number to which I will need to submit documentation to back up my claim.

I'll reply back once I hear from the advisor.

Thanks to everyone for their kindness and support.

It sounds as though OP is the petitioner (already in the US) - I don't know where the beneficiary lives, but nobody said it was England! :)

Because the OP is the USC? If they have grounds to expedite, why not do that? Mom probably cannot travel to the UK to see an engagement or non-legal wedding.

Timeline Summary:

K-1/K-2 NOA1 - POE: 9 February - 9 July 2010

Married: 17 July 2010

AOS mailed - Interview : 22 November 2010 - 10 March 2011

ROC mailed - approved: 14 February - 18 June 2013

Citizenship mailed - ceremony: 9 February - 7 June 2017

I live in Atlanta, she's from Moscow. We met here while she was traveling with her sister on a four month tour. She was out at a club with the lead singer of the band, I slipped her my phone number on the back of my receipt, she txt'd a couple days later inviting me out to play foosball with she and her sister. I went, played foosball, and proceeded to have my a$$ handed to me 30-0 before I got lucky scoring a single goal where I proceeded to cheer like I had won the world cup. We practically lived together for a couple months before her visa expired and off she went. For New Years, I spent a week in Moscow meeting her family and having the most incredible trip in my life.

As for the the lengthy K1 process, I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. The time apart allows us the time we need to make sure we are right for each other. We can focus on the mental aspect keeping the physical separate because she will turn every head in the room. I've had too many unfulfilling relationships so the last thing I want is to move this very special girl away from her family just to find out I can't give her the life she deserves and she can't give me what I need to be happy long term. All the suffering and difficulties we go through to be together only makes our relationship stronger ensuring we will outlast many of those who take their relationships for granted. Our loved ones are much too special to come easy.

Thanks again to everyone.

The request MAY be approved, but neither you nor anyone else can say that it "will" get approved, regardless of what you've seen or not. Please avoid posting replies like this.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
